Seabourn Greek Isle cruise

We have booked the 14 day Seabourn Greek Isle cruise departing 7/6/19. We have never taken an ocean cruise and are not sure whether to book the shore excursions offered by Seabourn or use another excursion provider. Could someone who has some experience with Seabourn excursions versus an independent excursion company offer any advice?

Everybody has their own approach to booking tours while on a cruise. Some will only book through the cruise company (in your case Seabourn). Others only use independent tour operators and still others do a combination of both. There is no right or wrong answer only different approaches.

Things to consider (listed in no particular order):

1) Seabourn tours will probably be more expensive than tours you book independently.
2) Independent tours going to the same places or having the same itinerary as the Seabourn tours will be essentially the same, however, in some instances Seabourn may limit the number of people on any given tour.
3) Seabourn may offer some "exclusive" tour destinations/itineraries not available from independent tour operators. Likewise, it is possible independent tours operators may offer some tours not available through Seabourn.
4) If you book though Seabourn you essentially do "one stop shopping" making it easier to adjust your schedule should you desire to change your tour in any given port.
5) If you book independently you have to do all the research and and make the bookings yourself.
6) If your Seabourn tour is late arriving back at the ship, the ship will wait for you. Conversely, if an independent tour is late getting back to the ship WILL NOT wait for you.
7) In many, if not all, instances you'll find plenty of independent tour operators hawking their respective tours at kiosks in or just outside the area where your ship will dock so you don't always have to pre-book your tours.

We will be taking our first ocean cruise, also a Seabourn cruise at the end of August. I will look forward to reading your trip report.

Did you know that Rick Steves has a book on all of the various cruise ports in the Mediterranean? It is available on Amazon, and would be a great resource if you wanted to do it yourself rather than going with Seabourn or hiring a tour company.

Have a wonderful time!
