Re: smoking?? Need your help.
We are active, adventurous seniors who want to take a Mediterranean cruise to celebrate our 55yr anniversary. I have carte blanche...my husband's only request is a smoker friendly cruise line. Which ships have smoking and non/smoking sections in the dining room?

Hi, Margaret. You might want to check into Costa Cruises. I believe they still have a smoking section in the dining room. (I haven't sailed Costa yet; have read mixed reviews.)
Merriem's message just goes to show you that smokers don't have the market cornered on rudeness.

Margaret,
I'm not sure but I believe that HA, Radison, Crystal have separate sections for smokers/non-smokers. I actually feel that the cruise lines do an excellent job of catering to both smokers and non-smokers....after all they both paid and enjoy a nice vacation! As for Merriem, geez....lighten up or you'll have a stroke and never cruise again (I suggest you try Disney or Renaissance because they are non-smoking ships-I loved Disney!)I don't feel we need rudeness when a sincere question was asked by Margaret who is just trying to accommodate her husband. Happy Cruising to All of Us.

Margaret: Ask your travel agent. As for the comments, they are well-taken, however, as a former smoker, I know what it is like be ostracized and made to feel like a criminal because of a smoking habit. Most smokers are aware that it's a bad habit and that most be are offended by the smell of cigarette smoke. Also, the few smokers I know are courteous, even if that means (and it has, many, many times) standing out in the cold to smoke. Good luck, Margaret, and I hope you and your hubby have a fantastic time!

I think most of the cruise lines have non-smoking dining rooms and theatres, however everyplace else is "Smoking". I must say I do wish the cruise lines offered non-smoking sections in lounges or casinos, they seem to only offer it in the dining areas. I don't think you'll have a problem any place else on the ships.

Hi Margaret....the European cruise lines do things the traditional, civilized, comfortable way : a smoking section, and a non-smoking section. Plain and simple! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time! PS:I'm sorry you were attacked so rudely in this forum!

If you're looking for a cruise line/ship that offers both smoking and non-smoking sections look at the European owned lines for example, Costa Cruises or Royal Olympic.
If you're looking for a cruise line/ship with a completely non-smoking dining room look at the North American owned lines. For example, RCCL, NCL, Princess, Celebrity, etc.
Enjoy your cruise!

My suggestion is that you go on the Windstar lines. There is lots of smoke, enough to satisfy anyone who smokes. Many folks were from the midleeast where smoking is very prevelant. However, I am quite allergic and it was difficult for us to get enough away, even with the smoking sections identified. Folks who smoke (and I used to be one) do not realize the penalty that they impose on others who don't. that is the problem, and until you become a non=smoker, you can never gain the perspective of the issue from both sides. Anyway, have a good time whatever you do.

Go with Holland America. My husband is very sensative to smoke but when we were on HAL they DO allow smoking in the diningroom. It never bothered us at all (must have excellent ventilation). It has the best of both worlds and all cruisers, both smokers and non-smokers enjoy what they paid for! Your hubby will like your choice.

sailed on HAL this summer to Alaska. Trouble is, there were smokers in the room next to my grandchildren, and the smoke seeped thru the adjoining door, under the door, etc., which made it unpleasant and probably unhealthy for the kids. Think they should seaparate rooms for smokers, for, as much as they clean them , they still stink when the next party goes in. Smoking has caused us great consternation, especially on a crowded deck, when you can't get upwind from it.

Most of ships nowadays are non-smoking in dining rooms and theaters. Often smoking is limitted to one side of the ship. Be sure to take a balconey room, so that you can smoke in peace on your balconey. As my husband is nonsmoker and the smel is offensive in a small room even to me, I just go out to the balconey to smoke.

I may be wrong, but Radisson still has a portion of the dining rooms designated for smoking and a portion for non-smoking. There is NO SMOKE problem with the rooms seperated so everyone is happy....as it should be. I personally don't feel that smokers should have to go without nor do I feel that non-smokers should be subjected to unwanted smoke. Afterall, they're all paying for their own vacation. Whatever Radisson is doing, they're doing it right. I've never heard smokers or non-smokers complain either way.
