problems with NCL

Serious post-cruise difficulties with Norwegian, which consequently have completely convinced me that I
will never take another Norwegain Cruise. Less than 12 hours after departing the ship after my cruise ended
last Sat I realized I had left some very important personal articles on board (each bigger than a bread box).
I was told Mon (after a very lengthy phone wait) that the articles were not found and frankly it was my
tough luck. After not receiving a call back from the "Guest Relations" Manager (I presume) whom I left a
VM with, I called back again today and was told he was not in and that there was no way would they know
on Mon if the articles were found or not. The woman who answered she had another list and my stuff was
not on the list and so it's my tough luck. The problem with this scenario, aside from the rude bimbos
answering the phones, is that these items were fairly large and the room, of course, was cleaned
immediately, consequently, if the items have not been found, they have been taken by a crew member as
there is no other plausible explanation. Of course, NCL still says it's my tough luck and I think this is an
incredibly poor level of service and highly unsatisfactory to me and unless I get some kind of satisfaction that
NCL has done everything they can to find my articles, I will never sail with this company again. I also plan
to air my complaints on Frommers and other travel sites. Apparently now that they have my money, their
level of customer concern plummets so I certainly do not plan to give any more of my money to a company
who treats it's past customers this way. Hopefully, someone in the company who cares will see this and do
something, but, I don't have high hopes.

It stinks that NCL could not locate your lost (bigger than a bread box) articles and yes they are probably in some cabin steward's room, afterall the steward will say it's his. With that said is NCL to blame? I think not. You left it and forgot it so it could not be all that important to you for if it was you would have double checked before leaving your cabin. Your carelessness caused the difficulities not NCL. Suck it up and chalk it up to experience learned that next time you'll double check your cabin before you vacate it.

If I were in NCL's position I too would be hard pressed to help you since it was your error that caused the problem and your comments are all focused on what they did wrong.

Why would you leave "very important personal articles, each larger than a breadbox" behind? It would be different if you lost a small piece of jewelry that wasn't easy to see when you left the room.

It is never helpful to include inflamitory language such as "and so it's my tough luck" or "aside from the rude bimbos (NCL employees)" etc.

I agree that a well written, non-threatening letter (your comment about posting this message elsewhere) will go a lot farther in getting results.

Hi Kitty -
In my experience, NCL's customer service level is lacking. I did, however, have my camera stolen years ago on the then-Dreamward and they sent a $100 shipboard credit, which I used on our next family cruise.
Good luck with your claim, and try to be nice, not TOO enraged when you write your letter!!!I understand the frustration, but it has to be toned done when you are asking for something, as you know!!

In thinking back...on the Majesty a few years back while on deck waiting to be cleared...our name and cabin was called..it seems I had l left several shirts in a drawer. On the other hand on the royal Caribbean B.O.S. I must of left an inexpensive piece of wooden costume jewelry and with all the great storage I must of forgotten or missed that particular drawer somewhere and if it were found in the last cleaning of our cabin and the long, long wait to disembark I gather it was never found.. That sadly was my fault..

Don't expect too much in the way of a return of your items. A couple of years ago I mistakenly left my purse out of the safe in the middle of the afternoon. Ironically, that day, our room steward was sick and had a replacement. When I checked my purse, I didn't have a lot of cash, but knew absolutely for sure there was a $50 bill in there--it was gone. RCL did nothing about it. Of course, there was going to be an "internal investigation", but nothing materialized. My fault, I accept responsibility for it--lesson learned, though--be much more cognizant about personal items and cash.

Speaking of NCL, about 6 years ago, we had a cruise booked with them over Christmas. We had to cancel due to a medical emergency but our T.A. rebooked for us in March. When it came time to take the March cruise, we were waiting and waiting for pre-cruise documents that never came. When our T.A. followed up, NCL cancelled the first cruise, but did not rebook us on the March cruise and DID NOT return our $400 deposit even though the rebooking was their mistake. Our TA booked us on Costa, which was one of the best cruises we've ever taken. And, no, we never, ever got the money back! Good Luck with NCL.

Please forgive me if this sounds rude, but if these items were so BIG, how did you miss taking them with you? It's always the little things, I've left in drawers/cabinets, etc. where I screw up.
Just curious, please don't take offence.
