Port of Call Lunch

When in a Alaska Port is it better to eat lunch in the towns or go back on board the ship?

We find it is easier and better on the waist line to grab an apple and a roll from breakfast and have a quick picnic like lunch at noon. And sometimes we will skip and have a later afternoon snack after returning to the ship. I would never waste the time of going back to the ship.

I have to agree with fmpden.

Just just got back from a Baltic Cruise and all we had was a local beer drink, because after having a big breakfast( more than I eat at home, you really are not hungry, even in the early afternoon.

Take a banana or two with you at breakfast and a Danish treat or whatever
.....then as fmpden said when you get back to the ship
....if it is 3 or 4 o'clock, then go to the buffet for a light snack because dinner is at 6 PM

We always had breakfast before going ashore so we never were really hungry at noon. We DID have a burger in Skagway, I think it was, at around three in the afternoon and that tied us over until our dinner seating at 8:00. I think we grazed the buffet when we got back on board and had a light snack. The other days we had a late buffet graze when we got back on board ship on the afternoon.

We prefer to enjoy the local foods whenever possible.

In Alaska, the sushi is particularly wonderful as is the salmon and crab.

The types of fish and the freshness of it, as well as the large Asian population makes sushi a treat in Alaska, as well as in B.C. It is not all reindeer dogs
