Mediterranean cruise and wind
We are planning an October 12-day eastern Mediterranean cruise including Rome, Athens, Istanbul, Greek Islands and Alexandria/Egypt.
I heard that fall in this area can have winds which produce high waves and sand storms.
Has anyone experienced this or know if this is fact?
Is there a best/worst time to sail in that area?
Thanks.

We have taken two Med cruises in October: one from Venice to Athens and one from Barcelona to Lisbon. We did not experience high winds or sand storms. We also took a trip to Israel and Jordan during October, and didn't have an trouble there, either.

There is an unpredictable North Wind, I have forgotten the name, that can occur at any time of year. We experienced it for 3 days in July, 2006, while on board Regatta. The waves were about 10', but I do not recall anyone becoming uncomfortable as they were well handled by the ship. The only problem we heard about was the cancellation of several high speed ferry trips.
On shore, there was a little blowing sand, but the ambient temperature was so high, as I expect it will be in September, the wind was a welcome relief.

I would really appreciate your thoughts on Holland America. We are planning a Mediterranean cruise in April and they have been highly recommended. We are planning on booking a room with balcony but are there any other tips when booking rooms - or anything
