Generally the more amidships and lower you are the less you sense movement. Our first cruise was on the Splendour of the Seas and we had an OV/non-balcony room which sounds alot like yours. On our first morning we awoke and looked out and much to our surprise we were moving. We felt nothing.

I have only been on 2 cruises. We did a Carnival cruise in the Carribean with an oceanview room and a NCL Alaskan cruise with an interior room. This was because whoever the idiot was who designed the ship, put any exterior cabin with more than 2 people behind the lifeboats. I saw no reason to pay extra for an obstructed view, and went with the interior cabin. This turned out fine as we were rarely in the cabin, mainly just for sleeping and washing/dressing.

Ok we do have an oceanview but its the guarantee room because it was 200.00 cheaper than picking our own room. Would it be smarter to just pick our room or just hope we get one that is decent when we get checked in for the cruise?

Can't even imagine taking a cruise with an interior cabin..yech..you can't tell day from night and I'd feel claustrophobic..We are now addicted to verandas, especially if your going on a longer cruise..but if you can't get a veranda def. get an ocean view...
