helicopter ride for glacier tour

My wife and I are apprehensive about flying in a helicopter, though we would like to see the glaciers. I believe the tour is from skagway. How long is the hellicopter ride? How many people are in it?How rouhj is it? I dont get sick on planes, except when the plane starts bouncing around. Last should we book it with the cruise ship,or can we book it on land. Oh How much does it cost?

check our www.eraaviation.com
they were recommended to me by a friend. I believe they are out of Anchorage. They offer heli tours and a prop plane tour. the plane is 90 mins and $139 pp; the heli is out of Juneau or Valdez. around 1 hour and approx. $180 pp. I plan on doing a heli tour. I'm on the Mercury June 11 cruise.
Hi Marvin. My husband and I went on a Alaska cruise last June and took the helicopter ride in Skagway. We did not book on the ship, but was able to book right on the dock. We loved the helicopter ride. A van picked us up at the dock and carried us to the helicopter. There were 5 of us in the helicopter including the pilot. The ride was fascinating. It was not rough at all. We stopped and walked on a glacier. I believe the cost was about $130 per person. Reservations were not required and there were several companies selling the trips from the dock. I hope you have a good trip. Take some warm clothes! The deck of the ship can be VERY cold.

Marvin,
I cruised Alaska last July. One of the best shore excursions we took was the flight and float. We took a 19 passenger plane that flew through the glaciers. It was choreographed to music and well narrated. It was so incredible that most of us one the plane were crying because we were so overwhelmed. After the flight, we took a rubber raft down a river to the ship. The beauty and silence of the surroundings was incredible. so you can fly through the glaciers and avoid a helicopter.
If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.
Gail

Gail-we are cruising on July 27th and were given $ from grandparents to book several excursions. I am trying to narrow it down-could you please tell me where the flight and float was located, and some other good ones you did? Thanks!

A few years ago my wife and I did the ERA helicopter tour in Juneau. We did the tour that actually landed on top of a glacier and you get to walk around. I would highly recommend it. It wasn't cheap, but everything considered, it was worth it.

There are several different flights mentioned here. My opinion only but nothing beats a glacier helicopter landing- a top choice for me (6 trips). ERA usually will NOT direct book any cruise passengers as they are the ship contractor. I prefer Coastal myself and second TEMSCO. As for float planes, best in my opinion is Misty Fjords- plenty of good operators, Carlin Air, Southeast Aviation, Island Wings. Full descriptions of flight times are on web sites, basic helicopter glaicer landing are about an hour of flying and 20-30 mins on the glacier. A top experience in my opinion.
