Last May I cruised on the new Diamond Princess, round trip from Seattle hoping to see calving glaciers. We went thru Tracy Arm. No glaciers to be found. I wanted to see calving glaciers. That was the whole point of my expensive first time cruise. Now I want to do the Diamond, May 2006, northbound from Vancouver to Whittier. Will I see glaciers? Please tell me so!!! Help!

2 yrs ago - we went to Canada & Alaska, I saw glaciers in the Canadian Rockies, Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau and several in Glacier Bay (calving). If you are going to those places, you will see them.

Other posters might help with other areas.

Have fun

The ship we were on visited Glacier Bay and for 2 hours the ship sat about 100 yards away from a calving Glacier. We were told this is quite common in Glacier Bay. You may want to see if the ship is going there. Glacier Bay is limited to 2-3 ships a day so not all ships go there. Experiencing calving glacier is really spectacular. Good luck. Bob

Yes, most certainly you will see glacier, at least 4 in Glacier bay and College Fjords- several. For even more with SUPERIOR close up extended viewing, consider a boat tour out of Whittier. A stop at the Portage glacier visitor center is also worthwhile.
Be aware unless you have a late May arrival, Denali Park may be snowed out and you may not get very far in. The shuttle to Fish Creek, my absolute min, distance in doesn't start running until June 1.

if you don't think we have global warming, try and find some nice, calving glacier. i'm afraid you may be in for a big disappointment.
