Food problems on Norwegian??
Hi. I'm interested in booking a cruise on Norwegian, however one travel agent told me to stay away from them, theat they are having MAJOR problems with food quality (She said they had several food recalls on thier ships this summer). Has anyoneone else heard this? I'm confused because a few other travel agents said they are a great line. I'm not sure what to think. Has anyone sailed NCL, & what did you think of the food?
Thanks for any help!
~ Marina

WOW PAUL!!!! Having just been disappointed in the brand new RC Brilliance food (that is an understatement) I must admit I'll take the NCL food, except for their buffets anytime.. I'm beginning to think it is a "snob" thing after talking to many RC fanatics with their nose in the air when you mention NCL as I did... After all the negative talk from people about NCL.. were my expectations for this too high. Oh yes....lol...The first day blueberry bagels and smoked salmon were served. Except for our set sitting in the p.m. breakfast and lunch in the dining room was a matter of indifference..Their Windjammer Cafe with stations was preferred...Today, I can tell you I know of four people who will be doing various NCL cruises starting today and hey are experienced cruises...everybody has their favorite ship...mine right now is the NCL Majesty..

I am married to the pickiest eater in the world and we have just booked our second Norwegian cruise. The waffles made and served on deck in the morning are the best he has ever eaten. The couple we traveled with before are also going and we have picked up two other couples. Go Figure!!!

Hi Parrotmom,

I did not specifically mention the food on NCL.

As a matter of fact, a few years back I enjoyed the food and thought the Jamaican staff was just great. Certainly better than RCCL.

I have no idea what the food is like now since I do not sail NCL anymore.

Paul

Paul,
Since you admit to having no idea as to the current food quality on NCL, why did you respond?

Marina,
It would depend on what other lines you have sailed and whether you are planning to utilize the main dining rooms, specialty restaurants, or buffets. I agree with parrot mom. I also prefer the food on NCL overall to RCI. I think NCL's specialty restaurants are excellent (some of the best food available at sea amongst the mainstream lines) but they do charge extra for these. I would say their main dining room food is a notch below Princess or Celebrity. Although we had some great dinners in the dining room on board NCL Star, I feel they don't have the consistency of the other 2 lines. I try to avoid the buffet food except for the occassional quick breakfast (but then I do that on every ship). This summer, there have been bacterial outbreaks on several cruise lines including Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Holland America (i actually haven't heard anything specific to NCL). Most of the cases were on Alaskan and/or Pacific Northwest cruises. Which ship are you thinking of booking?

Marina,
We have just returned from Alaska aboard the NCL Sky. The food was good to great. One night we had escargots and lobster tails in one of the main dining rooms. I heard noone complaining about getting sick, although I did see most eating WAY to much!! That kinda made me sick...I mean 2 double cheese-burgers, a hot dog, a plate of fries and a whole other plate of "other stuff" for lunch.....c'mon. Don't be scared, and have fun!!!
