Food on Royal Caribbean
Last fall we took the Voyager of the Seas on a quickie 5 day Canada trip and were disappointed with the quality and variety of the RCCL food. This was our 5th RCCL cruise and the food seems to be getting worse with each trip. Any comments or comparisons with other lines?

I have been on 2 RC and one Celebrity. The RC was Radiance, and a recent trip on Grandeur. The Constellation was the Celebrity. To me, none were bad, but I seem to always remember a special item whether it be a dessert, or an appetizer that would WOW me on RC. I am happy not to cook, or plan any meals for the duration of the cruise. So I generally pretty pleased over all with the food experience. Just my opinion.

Diann, I like your comment. I've been on 24 RCCL cruises and never complain about the food. So many people complain or are always comparing food. They should just stay home and cook! On a cruise if your not happy with what they bring you just ask for something else... (Try doing that at you favorite restaurant). We will be on the Jewel next week and I'm hearing how terrible the food is so I'm having my wife pack a lunch for each day.

Do a search typing in "food" with Royal Caribbean and you will find a long thread I started a few months ago. Opinions are very mixed, as you will see.
Interestingly, however, comments by recent cruisers on RCCL's Splendour have been quite favorable (on an all-cruise web site). Maybe RCCL got all of the negative feedback and is turning things around.
We cruise on Splendour on Saturday, and I have my fingers crossed.
Regarding Celebrity, we thought the food on its Summit during an Alaskan cruise 1.5 years ago was excellent. We would have taken Celebrity this time if it would have had a similar cruise departing Tampa (we're visiting a relative first).

IME, the Voyager was the worst of RCI ships in terms of food. My last RCI cruises were on Vision and Sovereign, both last year, and SOS was quite good while VOS was pretty poor.
IMHO, RCI food quality has declined over the past 5 years but I fingd them better than the other mass market lines, with Celebrity being the only exception.
IME, the food on CCL is awful, HAL bland, NCL okay but much better in the ala carte restaurants, Celebrity very good overall.

I found the food on the Dawn Princess to be quite good (especially in the dining room). They even brought my salad to me chilled (a special request--but if you don't ask...).
I found Princess food a cut above Carnival's but Carnival's is really quite good most of the time...

I guess a lot depends on your own personal preferences. I see in some of the replies that people did not like the food on Carnival. My husband and I were on the Glory and found the food to be quite wonderful. I actually regretted not going to the dining room for lunch for most of the week because on Friday, when we did finally make it there, the food was terrific. Ten months later we were on RCCL and we were so disappointed. The food was just so-so. We had been on many RCCL cruises years ago but this was not the greatest of experiences. I'm looking forward to going on Carnival again some day.

I have to agree with Jacketwatch. I was just on RCCL in Dec and thought the food was fair. I am not fancy in my choices but was very disappointed. I felt the desserts were not the greatest. I had 2 that were good and the others I never ate. I thought Carnival was a whole lot better than RCCL. I go again in 3 months on RCCL, we will see what happens.
