I have used Vacationtogo- name Brandey. I got a good deal and upgrade. If you find something on the net - call and they are very helpful! We will be going to the Western C. in February 2007 (5 nights) $450.00.

Going to be taking a cruise which includes Grand Cayman. Thinking about booking a half day excursion to Stingray City. Would like to know if anyone used Capt. Marvin's to book this instead of the cruise ship. How much notice do you need to make arrangements for February 2007? thanks

We used Captain Marvin's for our stingray trip and loved it. A smaller boat with firendly crew and even a videographer on board. If you want a video, be sure to tell them that when booking - they don't always have one along. We thought it was worth buying - the kids loved it.

Sorry I can't tell you how far in advance you must book, but it's not a huge operation, so I would book as soon as I had my date to be sure. It was about a 5 minute (maybe 10? I forget now) walk to the shop front from the dock.

It was also close to a rum cake shop where there were lots of great samples!!!

We used Capt. Marvins as well. It was fabulous. We saw the cruise ship tour...150 lemmngs trying to get off the boat at one time. We spoke to some of them..very unhappy. Strongly recommend Capt. Marvins or any other private tour operator that has a good reputation. Also cheaper as I recall but quality was the issue for us.

Why use a TA? First, none of the cruiselines allow an agency to discount. Some cheat. Many will offer another value instead (like shipboard credit) Second, almost every travel agency has access to some "bulk" rates. That means they (or an alliance of agencies) have bought a number of cabins on a sailing at a reduced rate from the cruiseline. Obviously, no agency can buy space on every cruise. So, every cruise price should be the same from agency to agency, unless they have a bulk rate on the specific cruise you are looking for. There is not any one agency (even AAA or Expedia) that is going to have a bulk rate on every cruise. If you are flexible, let your agent know you are looking for a good value, and they can probably find a bulk rate for you. Another reason to use a TA is for product knowledge. They know cruise ships, lines, ports, and have a wealth of other info. They know that someone looking for a Carnival cruise experience type of cruise will be very ubhappy on a Holland America ship. This kind of info is not on most web sites. And, a TA will be behind you if something goes wrong, they save time in the planning process, and they will never cost more then going direct (the earlier post who said a TA gave them outrageous air fare for a cruise was probably selling air fare provided by the cruise line itself). Hope this helps!
