Cruising in France Advice

I am considering a river cruise this spring or summer and wonder if anyone has done one in France. I have lived in Germany previously for 6 years and have been to most of the cities on the German rivers and the Danube. How scenic is the French cruise and did you enjoy the towns the cruise stopped in. Peter Dielmann cruises seem to be the best for France. Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

It's pretty scenic. There's a Deilmann ship that sails through Provence, about the most picturesque part of the country.

I went on the Princese de Provence (Dielmann) last fall and had a wonderful time. I loved every stop and every excusion.
Although the cabins are small, (about 130 sq ft) the boat, staff and dining were top notch.

One of the highlights for me was sailing past Lyon at night with the whole city in lights while the musician played the french version of taps. We enjoyed the night on the top deck with a glass of champagne. It was beyond beautiful.

The passenger mix was about 50/50 German and English speaking so I had no trouble understanding the tour guides or staff on board.
I would recommend this cruise and cruiseline to anyone.

Late March 2008 I did a 6 night barge hotel trip on the Seine! Awesome in every way. 48 people, great excursions and wonderful food and wine all for a resonable price. I would barge again in a heartbeat. You can google "Anacoluthe" to see the one we took. Also the only extra $ were for tip and hard booze on board. I am saving now for a barge trip through Provence.

We did a "last minute" trip on a Riverboat with Grand Circle that started in Paris for a couple of days, bused us to river and ended up in Nice. The price was great, the food and wine good, less than 50 people, cabin great, towns nice. Very nice trip. Relaxing, not rushed.
