CRUISE CANCELLATIONS

IF cruises are cancelled due to the present "emergency", then I presume that the major cruise lines will refund or future book.
But what about private air bookings ? Should insurance be bought now ?
neviboy

If the cruise is cancelled by the cruise line your money will be refunded. If you decide to cancel you are on your own.

Too late to purchase insurance to cover these acts of terrorism. It only stands to reason.

The same if a strike is being considered. You will not be covered for the strike if it occurs.

Paul

I am scheduled to sail on a HAL cruise to Alaska on 9/22/01 out of Vancouver. Due to the recent events in our country I am very aprehensive not only about flying, but also leaving the country. I am also not really in the right spirits for a vacation and I wrok in a television newsroom and I really need to stay close in the event of war. HAL cancelled today's sailing but they have no plans to cancel next Saturday's since air travel has resumed for the most part. They are refusing to issue a cruise credit for nect season or offer any sort of a refund. I did not purchase the insurance. Is there anything I can do? You would think with our state of affairs they would be more understanding. The cruise is expensive so the loss would be significant.

Any advice would be great.

Kelsey - Last time I checked, Alaska was this country. Let us all remember that the travel industry as a whole is experiencing a huge influx of cancellations . . . if you think you can't afford to lose what you spent on your cruise, can you imagine what the travel industry is losing? No business can survive if they allow refunds to those who are simply "scared" to travel. I believe the majority of travel businesses have allowed as much leeway as they are able during these trying times.

CSA is still writing policies according to their web site - not sure if they will cover terrorism or not.

Ulalani, You are very quick to point out to Kelsey that Alaska is in the USA but apparently you aren't aware that Vancouver is in Canada.......Not US. It is amazing how many people don't think they have to take any ID because they are going to Alaska and haven't figured out that they leave the country also.

Maryanne - Oh, heavens, my mistake. After all, it's not as if Canada was a friendly country with whom we share a border. I doubt that one little stop in Vancouver is going to be Kelsey's undoing.
I am shocked that one would fear going to Alaska and not fear staying in the continental US. THIS is where terrorism is now not in Alaska or Canada. However, I am enjoying buying such low airfares and cruises with so many of you in fear.
