2 Just Arrested on Carnival

I was just watching CNN and they announced that 2 people connected with the terrorist attacks were arrested on a Carnival Cruise Ship in Miami! Nowhere is safe!
Tannya

So much for background check on their employees---what else don't we know about other "supposed" background checks-what if the Coast Guard doesn't have ALL the names and someone else is on a SHIP and is a KNOW hijacker?!

Tannya - Get your facts right!!! No one was arrested and they weren't purported to be connected to the 9/11 events. If your purpose is to scare people on this site than you need to go somewhere else. People need good information, not fabricated garbage whose intention is to glorify the poster.

Anyone that wants the correct story, go to any of the news sites on the internet or listen to the radio or TV. Please don't let this misinformation sway your decision to take or book a cruise.

Peter: Get a life. I only repeated what CNN reported on their program clip, as my post says if you would take time to read it rather than just jumping in with both feet and making incorrect assumptions that I'm trying to scare anyone. For goodness sake, I'm a frequent traveler and don't want to be scared or to scare anyone else.
Two "suspicious" people were taken off a Carnival ship on Friday off the coast of Florida, near Miami. No mention was made of arrests or that they were indeed involved in the terrorist attacks.

From Travel Weekly's Cruise Letter:
THE IMMIGRATION and Naturalization Service released two Carnival cruise ship
passengers late Sept. 14. The pair were removed from Carnival's Fascination
by Coast Guard officials at 3:15 a.m. on Friday as the ship sailed 20 miles
south of Miami. The men were released after questioning, according to an INS
official who declined further comment. A source with knowledge of the investigations
confirmed that the passengers, an uncle and his nephew, were detained primarily
because the uncle's name is similar to that of a suspect in a bombing in India.

OK Tannya - what was your reason for this post? Just passing on information that you thought anyone interested in cruising should know? Bull****

Ah Peter, the voice of stupidity! Maybe she just needed to vent as do most people who are quite scared. You don't seem to contribute anything to this forum except for your negativity towards your fellow man/woman. I have never seen you say anything positive on this board. All you do is pick on other people. Rebuttal?

If the republican and democratic members of congress can show the unity with each other and the president that they demonstrated last night, surely our discussions about pleasure travel can be civil.
Mike

Rebuttal -

My understanding of the purpose of this board is to ask questions about cruising and provide useful information about cruising. My initial post on this thread was to "correct" the information that Tannya was passing along to the Fodor's cruise community. She did not hear CNN say that two people taken off the Carnival ship in Miami were arrested and were connected to the terrorist attacks. That never happened!

I can only imagine what an already worried cruiser would think if they were scheduled for a cruise that weekend. Tannya's contribution was to the situation could ONLY be negative. There is no silver lining to her message. She couldn't have been warning us - she knew the information was wrong!

Face it, there are some people who post here that take some repulsive pleasure in painting a bleary picture. Maybe I have been a bit negative in some past posts, but I wouldn't stoop so low as to use the tragedy of 9/11 to heighten an already tense situation - travel in these days after!

I think anyone really interested in getting cruise information without all the rudeness should check out www.cruisecritic.com. The have very good info and the people seem to be more considerate of each other.

Just a follow up to the original post...

In an indication of increased U.S. security, the Coast Guard has begun checking all lists of crew members and passengers on vessels entering the United States, and comparing names with those on law enforcement databases, said Cmdr. Jim McPherson.

He cited the example last week of the captain of a cruise ship returning to Miami from Cozumel, Mexico, who reported that two passengers were acting suspiciously. The Coast Guard was contacted, detained the men and found that one was wanted in connection with terrorist acts unrelated to the Sept. 11 hijackings. The man was turned over to the FBI.

-

Associated Press Writers Pat Milton and Jonathan Salant contributed to this story.
