Cruiising Home to Bayonne, New Jersey
OKAY, Fodorites I need help!!! we are cruising into Bayonne New Jersey and diect air fare to Boston is over $300.00 each..ffom Newark. Now, outside of renting a car and driving home..my brilliant idea was to rent a car or taxi and go to JFK or Laguardia to take a flight home to Boston..Please, please any feedback on this at 3way under $100.00each

I'd say stay with Newark. How would you get to JFK or LaGuadia? Do you know what traffic is like to get to either? Horrendus!! Renting a car with the traffic would not be my idea of something I'd want to do. And, could you get a cab to take you to those airports in another state? They will not get another fare to bring them home. And cab fare would be VERY high. Neither would be my idea of how to end a cruise. What are fares to Hartford, then maybe rent a car and drive to Boston?
And keep checking air prices - they may go up and down like cruise fares.

thanks..lol.... another altenative is to buy a round trip ticket and only use one way...or see if the cruise line is offering a service to other airports beside Newark.. Think I'll let my travel agent earn her commission..lol and find out

Another possibility depending on whether you are traveling w/the kitchen sink or not is Amtrak.
From Newark the 12:19 pm arrives
Back Bay 4:48 pm.
$180 fare; regular senior(there
are other discounts like AARP, AAA, etc) is $153...
Would this be an optino?

You can get a car service to pick you up a the cruise terminal in Bayonne and take you to either JFK or LaGuardia. I would estimate it would cost about $80 or $90. That will be cheaper than a cab. Call and get a quote from Dial 7. That's the only realistic option, in my opinion.

Yes, I did Gail...from what I've been reading getting to JFK maybe very difficult one way.. drivers/taxis may not want to take us.. I may look into a car service or...I've discovered the cruise line has transportation to LaGuardia as well as Newark.. and I'm goig to see what their prices are..At this point we carry alot of luggage and it maynot be worth the "grief"... I'm going to let my new/old travel agent figure it out today for me.. Gail.. how about coming along wit us on the Constellation trans-atlantic in September..

You should have no trouble getting a car service to take you to JFK for less than the cost of a taxi. But I think you'll just need to check prices. AA, Delta, and USAirways have many daily flights to Boston from LGA, so there are possibilities here. But air prices are way up since December, and you're unlikely to get a really cheap fare from LGA. This is a very popular business route, and discounted tickets, while available far in advance, aren't plentiful.
