RCL Voyager will be out of New Jersey !

Royal Pulls Voyager from NYC;
Crossing Hudson to Bayonne, New Jersey

In a stunning move, Royal Caribbean is pulling its two New York
ships, Voyager of the Seas and Nordic Empress, out of
Manhattan and repositioning them to Bayonne, N.J., effective for
departures beginning in May.

"We love New York, but with all the congestion at the harbor
there, the time is right to move," says Senior VP Marketing And
Sales Dan Hanrahan. "We felt like there is an opportunity to
create an easier experience for our guests. This will make it
much, much easier for our guests to get to the ships."

Bayonne may not have the marquee value of Manhattan, but
Hanrahan says the location is a plus: "The unobstructed views
of Manhattan are great--and it's right across from the Statue of
Liberty." The property is the former Bayonne Military Ocean
Terminal, now called The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor.

And then there's the ease of getting there--just off the New
Jersey Turnpike, a 15-minute trip from Newark Airport. The
distance is greater from LaGuardia and Kennedy airports, but
Hanrahan says that the time it takes to get from those airports to
the port may not be longer, depending on traffic conditions. And
for the all important drive market, New Jersey is seen as
generally being easier when one looks at population clusters in
the region. "They won't have to go into the city of New York,"
emphasizes Hanrahan. "When people are offloading and
onloading in the port of New York, it can get very crowded."

He adds there will be light rail service and Amtrak service
connecting right in the port, and there is a possibility of ferry
service into Manhattan. "The whole area is going to be
redeveloped with light industrial office space and recreational
park area," he adds. "Parking is spacious with ample spaces to
handle Voyager of the Seas."

As announced earlier this year, Voyager will be doing nine-night
Caribbean and five-night Canada/New England sailings; Nordic
Empress has been a staple in the Bermuda market. "It's going to
make life easier for everybody in the sense that it will also take
some of the congestion out of the port of New York," says
Hanrahan.

At this point, Celebrity is staying in the port of New York for its
Bermuda runs.

Hi, thanks for the info! Does anyone know when cruiselines begin their departures out of Northeast cities? I do see that for the Voyager it will be in May. Are there any in April from New York, Philly or Baltimore? I like the idea of driving not flying at that time. Sorry if this is a dumb question! Thanks!

Wills, here's what I've found so far regarding Northeast cruise departures in April 2004: Baltimore-4/5&26- 11 night Eastern Caribbean with Celebrity
4/16- 10 night Western Caribbean with Celebrity and 4/15,25- 10 night Southern Caribbean with Holland America.
Philadelphia will offer a 7 night to Bermuda on 4/18 and 25 with Norwegian and an 11 night Atlantic Coast (forgot to note date) and New York has a 6 night Bermuda 4/23 with Celebrity and 7 night 4/24(Celebrity). Carnival offers an 8 night East. Caribbean 4/29
and a 7 night Bahama 4/4,11,18 and 25.
