Since All cruise ship lines are not Registered in the US they feel they can dump anything in our precious oceans, The cruise lines dont care about the fines, its the cost of doing business, so how much money do you think they save if they dump Oil, Garbage, raw sewage in the ocean instead of paying vendors to remove it. $50,000,000 or more for the fleet of 6 lines they own.
If you are ever injured on a cruise ship, GOOD LUCK, try to sue them!
Also ever wonder why you get a Cold or Flu on cruises more then 7 days, because the cabins all have recalculating air and passengers that are sick, you will be getting their cabin air and the germs spread & spread. I have been on 26 cruises and have witnessed half the ship sick at the end of a 20-day cruise.

You are living in a dream world if you think major corporations are paying their share of taxes.

If cruise lines were to allow the unions to run the lines you would either have to pay triple to cruise or the line would not make a profit.
As an example look at the U.S. registered ships that are no more.
Also look at what us taxpayers had to put up to build their new ships which are now rusting in U.S. shipyards. Sad that the U.S. can not compete with foreign interests.

Paul

Hello .... wake up. Dumping in the oceans, rivers and streams has been going on for hundreds of years.

Where did you think all thise barges going down the Hudson River a couple of decades ago were going, Disney World?

Don't kid yourself, all cruise lines dumped. Carnival volunteered to be the scapegoat.

We have all been guilty of dumping in one way or another but now we know better and some day our oceans will be clean.

Paul

Holland America: The whistle-blower, John Vermeulen, who was an assistant engineer on the Rotterdam, was awarded $500,000, half of the criminal fine paid by Holland America. Vermeulen, who no longer works for the cruise line, refused orders to dump the oily water overboard. Under a provision of the 1980 Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships, whistle-blowers are eligible to collect part of the fines the companies are ordered to pay.

The Dutch corporation that owns Holland America, HAL Beheer BV, pleaded guilty to one felony count of illegally discharging wastewater and one felony count of failing to comply with record-keeping requirements for wastewater. The company agreed to pay a $1 million fine and another $1 million in restitution.
Another great cruise line.

Paul you still haven't answered the question. What is the real cost over time for this damage. Answer no one will know for 50 years or more.

And I'm sure Carnival had ulterior motives for "Volunteering" to be the scapegoat. Now look who is being foolish.

Bloodletting was also a common practice in medicine long ago that went on for hundreds of years. Do we still do it? No because we know better.

You continue to show your ignorance of the long term ramifications of their actions.

Re read your first comment concerning this serious issue:

Oh dear, my favorite cruise line has been found guilty. Now they have joined the ranks of all the other cruise lines that were dumping.

Guess we will all have to quit cruising.

Maybe I'll sell vacuum cleaners.

Paul

Could be sometimes you have the grace of the proverbial bull in a china shop.

Since you are such a well known figure here Paul you now have to be more cautious than the average poster. Just my suggestion.

Paul, you aren't related to our ex-President the Teflon King are you? You manage to squirm your way out of more situations than even he did. I did not say anything derogatory about that ship or situation. Ooooops, Well maybe I did, but I really didn't mean it. And if you let this one slide like the other twenty comments I won't do it again I promise (wink wink nudge nudge ).

Paul. Why is it when either someone makes an honest question or calls you on your ignornace you never have a reply. The last couple of posters, and now myself included would like to know why being so informed that you don't have a decent answer?

If you can't answer than stop posting. And Carnival has the best value cause they save so much money by dumping in the ocean. What about all the things they haven't been called on. And please don't drudge up that they brought it up themselves. That in the old days was called a, "Red Herring".

If anyone of you jerks who bash me would take the time to read all my responses you will see that I talk positively concerning all cruise lines. I do not just favor Carnival. Carnival just gets the most inquires and I respond in kind.

I attempt to give the best advice with the information I know by my own experience and those of my associates. I also refer to the industry news. I do not make things up.

I do make mistakes, I am not God.

If you negative posters would spend more time studying the industry and stop disagreeing with what others say this would be a better forum.

No one has to agree with me if they so choose. Those that spend their entire life studying their data base of all my posts have a serious problem.

Happy cruising.

Paul
