Carnival Ecstasy -- Good or Too Old of a Ship
I'm wary about going on an old ship. Has anyone been on the Ecstasy very recently? Could you please share your experiences with me, i.e. cleanliness, food, etc.?
I appreciate it.

You didn't say if you've sailed before. It gets down to what you are comparing it to.
If you have never sailed and your expectations are not too high, you can have fun on this ship. I've sailed her and her sister ships and they are OK, if you're not expecting a mega ship, etc.
Food and entertainment, etc. is similar on Carnival ships, but you'll have the obvious limitations due to size, i.e. Casino, showrooms, etc. are all smaller. Activities will also be limited by size, and if you're into things like using the health club facilities, you may well be disappointed as the workout room is tiny compared to the newer/larger Carnival ships such as the Victory, Triumph, etc.
Hope this helps....again, it gets down to your expectations and past history with sailing. If you have specific questions post them here and perhaps we can help a little more.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.
Yes, I've sailed w/ my children many times before...twice on a Carnival, and 3 times on RCCL. Honestly, I preferred RCCL than Carnival, but in my case this time around, we're in a very low budget, so as people say "beggars can't be choosers".
I guess my main concern is the cleanliness and upkeep of the ship. Also, my kids and I always enjoy the shows, so as long as the shows are entertaining, that's a big plus for us.
As for food, we're not really that picky as long as there's something my kids can eat on a daily basis because they're the picky ones.
Thanks,
Liz

Considering your budget, I think Ecstasy will be fine for you and your kids....food and shows are fine. Just don't have the highest expectations for the ship itself as it does show wear and tear, but overall I found it clean enough. I think you'll have a lot of fun just all being together on vacation.

Your cruise is long past by now, but we were on Ecstasy in January 2006 and, for us, we thought it was wonderful. The food was outstanding in the dining room and in the pizzeria and our waiters were the best...wish I could say the same for our tablemates...lots of odd people out there.
We have traveled all over the world, but this was our first cruise and even though my husband does not like boats of any size, he is ready to go again.
I had thought we were sailing on Elation, but it had something to do with the hurricane. I didn't care which one I was on...being new to this, I didn't realize there could be a big difference in various ships.
Our bathroom was not cleaned the entire week we were there, we didn't use any room service and our room steward was next to useless, but that was all minor.
The Ecstacy might be old, but it has a very regal elegance in the public areas.
