Caribbean Cruise during Hurricane Season

Given my schedule, and my love for warm weather, I am looking to book a Western Caribbean cruise this coming September. I realize that it's hurricane season, but I'm just wondering if some of you can give me a heads-up as to what I might experience. It seems to me that it is really a coin-toss weatherwise. Thank you.

You are right it sort of is a coin toss with odds

overwhelimingly in your favor.

Sometimes westher mostly can be deviated around though.

Get GREAT deals in September

for me a Balcony on the Legend Western Caribbean not long ago

$429/wk Priceline.com awesome value.

always insuremytrip.com separately cheap wise.

But you are right winter best weather everywhere there.

So if money is no object go then, Happy Hunting,

Having been on a cruise ship in a storm (not a hurricane), I can assure you that there are no redeeming qualities, except, maybe, relief when the storm has passed. It is a miserable experience. Maybe the prices are good, and the risk low, but I would not take that risk.

No ship will be anywhere near a hurricane. If a hurricane is just forecast for the Eastern Carib, the ship will go to the Western Carib or visa versa! This happens EVERY time a hurricane is forecast, long before it gets there, the itinery is changed.
As far as rough seas, that can happen at ANY time of the year. We have cruised many times in September and never worry about being in a hurricane!

If you go, get trip insurance. Check the policy to make sure you'd be covered for weather related issues.

Keep your expectations realistic and realize that you may have a change of ports, or more sea days. Go with the flow.
Maybe you will have a great story to tell, maybe not.

I agree about getting trip insurance and insuremytrip.com is a good source for that.

In the event of a storm or tropical rain you will either miss ports and have extended sea days or they will try to get to a differnt port. If the cruise experience for you means seeing the actual ports and not the just being on the ship itself, the price difference is not worth it.

You might want to read the reviews on Cruise Critic during that timeframe to know what you may experience.

In September, I would head to an Island considered outside of the hurricane belt like Aruba, Curacao, Barbados or St. Lucia. I would still get the hurricane/trip insurance just to be on the safe side though.
