Late September cruise, is this a bad time of year?

We are looking at doing a Caribbean cruise next year which will start the 3rd week in September, is this a bad time of year weather wise. It is part of a tour package, but I am unsure of Hurricane season.

Should I be worried?

September is smack dab in the peak of the Atlantic/Caribbean Hurricane Season. Of course it's impossible to predict if a major tropical storm will form during the week of so in September when you are cruising and if one did it will come anywhere close to places your ship will be visiting. If there are no storms nearby your itinerary the weather could be quite good in September. Now, if there is a storm in the area the cruise line reserves the right to change the published itinerary at the last minute to avoid the effects of the storm. That's the risk you take with planning a Caribbean Cruise in September. ONLY YOU can determine if you are comfortable with that risk.

YES most definitely it IS hurricane season in that part of the world. Hot & rainy season at best. Personally I wouldn't go anywhere in the Caribbean or even most of Mexico in Aug/Sept myself.

When the weather is good (majority of time) the water sparkles, is calm, and bright turquoise, I bet it's when most "ads photos " are taken. The sun is high, the water just gleams.

I go every august, it is hot. Rainy is relative. Hilly islands attract more showers in general, flat ones tend to stay dry.

Solution in case of hurricane? Insurance! But it wouldn't keep me away

Well I think I may be spooked with the weather in the Caribbean at that time of year. We can opt out of the cruise, which is at the end of the tour. It was just that a Caribbean cruise has always been on our list and we would be in that "neck of the woods". But maybe save it for another time.

In that case maybe do the tour 1 month later which would mean travelling from NYC to New Orleans for first 3 weeks in October. I guess that is even risky. But at least we won't be on a cruise ship.I am trying to join the trip to the East Coast with some fall colour viewing.
