We are taking trip on the Grand Princess in mid March. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to bring bottles of wine on board. I thought we would put the bottles in our checked baggage. Do they take it out? Would you advise it, or do something else. Just trying to save a little money.

The problem with that is that your luggage will be screened and per new regulations you must put your luggage through UNLOCKED ... I expect that it may disappear..

We always pack several bottles of a special (to us) chardonay that is unavailable aboard the ship. We roll each bottle securely in lots of bubble wrap, and pack in a suitcase reserved for non clothing items such as shoes, toiletries.snorkel equipment etc.We always have checked this bag because it is too heavy to carry around. Have never had breakage or a problem getting it to our cabin. I suspect the airport screeners will be both too busy and well supervised to bother with stealing a few bottles.

Honestly it depends on the cruise line. Most cruise lines now put all the bags through a screening machine and will require you to take out bottles or questionable items (that goes for coming on and off the ship at ports of call also). I've been on 7 cruises and my experiences have been 50-50, some don't care and some take it very seriously. Most of the cruise lines have good wine selections and you can buy a bottle that is relatively inexpensive, drink half and have them re-cork and save it for you for another night. AND it can be delivered to you anywhere on the ship. In other words, if you open the bottle in the main dining romm on Monday night, you can have the server get it for you at the piano bar on Wednesday night if you want. They have become very accomodating on cruises (as if they weren't before)

Most of the cruise line web sites that I have reviewed allow you to bring wine or champagne on board. It is &quot;hard&quot; liquor that they try to discourage. I have cruised on Celebrity and Princess and have had no problem bringing wine aboard thru screening. You can even take them to dinner for a corkage fee. Princess also offers a wine package that averages $20 a bottle plus tip.

I just got off the phone with Princess (we're going on the Golden in 3 weeks) and they told me you are allowed to bring wine and/or champagne on board. You are not, however, allowed to bring on hard liquor or beer.
