Bringing Wine on Board Cruise Ship

I will be cruising on the Norwegian Dawn out of New York in a few weeks and have never used that line. Any comments would be appreciated.
Also, can we bring a bottle or two of wine when we board in New York or do they confiscate it..?

JBBM: You're not likely to get many responses to this question since it's asked over and over again here. Just above this message you'll see a box marked "SEARCH THIS FORUM", type in something like "WINE" and then in the "TOPICS" select the cruise line you will be cruising. You'll find dozens of relevent replies. Hope this helps.

JBBM, if you wrap it in bubble wrap in with your checked luggage, you shouldn't have a problem.

I sail mostly on Celebrity. Their brochures say they have the right to refuse bringing it on board, but I've never been stopped. I just don't flash it in front of them. I bring it on board in my carry-on. I have one of those 22" roller bags -- stick it thru the x-ray machine and keep on trucking till I get to the stateroom.

If you bring it to the dining room, they will probably charge you corkage. Celebrity charges $12.00 per bottle.

There are also some decent imported box wines that are really convenient to carry on.

If you have it in your carry-on they will take, tag it, and tell you to ask your waiter for it and then charge a $10 corkage fee. If you do not finish it at one meal, they will save it and you can request it another time. I think you can bring it in your checked luggage with no problem. We had a bottle of Hennessey (spelled wrong, I'm sure!) that we enjoyed in our cabin.
We had read that you could bring one bottle of wine on board in your carry-on, no questions asked. Not the case on the Sky. We didn't care or mind the ten dollars as it was a great bottle of wine (a classico chianti we found on sale in a Seattle liquor store for 4.99) and wished we'd bought more!!

triathlete and esd have confused me. I can just picture it now...the waiter carries over your box of wine and presents it to you at the table in front of the entire table of cmpanions.

My confusion is how they charge you a corkage fee if there is no cork in the BOX of wine??
