You really do not want to go to the Baltics in October.
In fact I think that Princess lines has their last cruise to the Baltics about mid September.
Go, as jacketwatch has mentioned ...when the weather is warm and the daylight days are long

We were there in early July and it was almost too nice. Warm days, long days. It was at least 11 p.m. in St. Petersburg before it got dark. I wish we had gone in May or Sept, in part to avoid some of the crowds and in part for a little cooler weather.

The weather can be fickle. We were there from June 11-21. St. Petes then was cool and very windy. A light jacket was needed and Helsinki was actually windy, rainy and pretty chilly to the point we cut short our shore time. Otherwise it was nice but never warm to the point you wish you had shorts ans were perspiring.
