We are booked on a 10 night Oceania cruise next June from Rome to Barcelona. We are 45 years old. We are not big partiers, but have heard the cruise line caters to an older clientele (50+). We hate to spend a lot of $ and be bored and disappointed. We don't want it to be like a senior citizen cruise.Any advice would be appreciated.

You should be fine. I normally find all different age groups on most any cruise line I've cruised on except for the shorter 3 or 4 night cruises which definitely cater to a younger crowd.

Usually the longer the cruise, the older the pasengers...because. who else can take two weeks plus for vacation..lol.. That said we took a 17 day cruise and found a mixed age group..Don't let that put you off.. because some of we seniors are interesting and don't act our age.. Cruise lines cater to ALL ages...during next June from Rome to Barcelona you may find a younger group..Not that I dislike kids.. but I find some cruise lines definetely want to appeal to families with children such as RC, Carnival, NCL.. Oceana is an older group. I'd recommmend you check out reviews on other sites.

I think you are probably right, mostly (but not all) will be 50+. But I don't think it's one of those cruise lines that are more like 65+. I guess it just depends on your age threshold.

My husband and I are going on an Oceania Rome/Venice cruise in '07. We are fine with 50+ (we are 39 and 42). Many people in that category are just as fun and interesting as people ten years younger.

On the other hand, two years ago we went on a Uniworld River Cruise (we won it), and we were the youngest by far. We definitely would have liked more people in the 35-60 age range. But we met fun people anyways, including a couple in their mid-fifties who are now our friends for life.

Again, I think it just depends on your threshold.

We also just returned from an Oceania cruise and found a mix of ages also. Most people were probably from 45-65, but there were also people outside that range too. If you have cruised before and are looking for a lively casino, big production shows, games on the pool deck, etc. you may be disappointed. This is definitely a quieter ship in those areas.
However, if you want a wonderful cruise experience you will be very happy with Oceania. This was our first cruise with them and we loved it and can't wait to go back.

Cherie--You will have a ball! Our cruise was from Athens to Rome and we spent 3 nights post cruise in Rome. It was our first time to any of these places and I can't even begin to tell you how much we loved it. Enjoy!

Thanks BarbK! We're so excited. It's actually in honor of my 40th bday. Hopefully it'll take some of the sting out of the milestone.

We too have never been to anywhere our cruise is going (Italy, Greece and Croatia), and will be spending one extra night in Venice before the cruise, and two extra nights in Rome at the end.
