Are Tennis shoes ok for dinner?
My husband is a mechanic and only owns black work boots and a pair of tennis shoes. He hates wearing fancy dress shoes. Can he just wear his tennis shoes to dinner? He will have a dinner jacket for the formal nights, but I figure that once he is seated, nobody will see his shoes, so why buy a pair of dress shoes for one or two formal dinners?

A suggestion - rent shoes. Can be done from a formal company. Or even better, rent the entire outfit (tux, shirts, shoes) for about $100 from one of the cruise formal providers. It will be on the ship when you arrive so you don't have to lug it around travelling to/from the cruise.

And no, wearing sneakers probably isn't the way to go.

Oh come on now, Barbera! Since you described two formal nights, that means this is a seven day cruise. You must have at least shelled out $1200 for the cruise for both of you, not to mention airfare.
Tennis shoes will make your husband look foolish and be very self conscious on formal night. You can go to Payless or Wal-Mart and get a simple pair of black men's shoes for $30. Or Less. If you can't afford to spend $30 for a simple pair of shoes, you will not be able to afford all the drinks, shore excursions, bingo cards, etc, on the ship. You will spend a lot more than $30 on the ship.

Your husband can wear the black shoes to a wedding, a graduation, church functions. Heck, make the dude take you out to a nice restaurant!
