Before anybody gets a chance to "dis" this ship .let me tell you I have been on the ship nine times...Boston to Bermuda..even before it belonged to NCL and inspite of what could be major faults by other people, I absolutely adore the ship and the staff. The ship is a comfortable ship, the crew has been friendly and it's not too large.. There are no balconies by the way. It is not a Princess, nor thank heavens a Royal Carribean..or a Crystal....From Boston this ship has a huge following.. It is the most re-booked ship in the lne..I think I just saw a Lattitudes magazine and there are two sisters who have been on the ship 43 times and that's only from Boston to Bermuda...lol You will get some negative comments, especially from Paul.. We do not like the buffets and the only midnight buffet is the Chocolate...I don't know if they are doing the Grand Buffet, or for that matter if any of the NCL ships are doing it. If you are going on the Majesty from Boston your pretty lucky and I'll be glad to give you hints for Bermuda..

We just returned from a cruise on the Majesty to Bahamas and found the ship nice, the free style dinning was good but the food was not fancy.

You really have made it known that you feel NCL is an inferior line, because of repairs, etc. Thought you'd like to know I just booked the NCL Sea from NYC (taking bus from Providence)to re-visit Bermuda. As you know it will be docking a Hamillton, the Dockyard and St. George. Have been told it is going in for complete refurbishing next month before it services NYC and Philadelphia. A past cruiser on the ship said they just love the intimacy of it and by coincidende the NCL Sea was the first ship we ever cruised on 15 years ago and hooked us on cruising.

Oh yes, the old NCL Sea to Bermuda. That should stop new cruisers from sailing forever. Look at what they did with their last ship out of NYC to Bermuda. They destroyed it.

Paul

See what I mean Paul..Actually, by accident we were on the ship 15 years ago (our first cruise)...and it hooked us on cruising. I know the cabins are tiny and I know the ship is small (thank heavens) and we don't require glitz or conceige service...just cruise me to those three dockings in Bermuda... Oh yes, I have a friend who cruised that ship to Canada recently and loved it..What turns me off is the snobbery of many cruisers who want suites and their idea of gourmet food and whose only interest in life is to brag about how many cruises they have been on...oh yes...they want to buy it at rock bottom prices by the way..As long as they have Art Auctions and goes to where I want to go...I'm a happy camper..or is that cruiser..

Parrotmom
I always enjoy reading your posts. My husband and I celebrated our 29th anniversery last summer by taking our first cruise ever on the Norwegian Majesty from Boston to Bermuda. The overall experience exceeded our expectations and we are looking forward to cruising again, this time with our teens. We were thinking about taking the Sea next time we go because it docks in Hamilton and the Dockyard as well as St George. Parrot Mom, does Norwegian offer bus service from the Boston area to the pier in New York? If so, is it very costly?
To the orininal poster Marie...my husband is the fussiest man on earth and he found nothing to complain about on the Majesty. Go and enjoy ..and please post your comments when you return
Are there any recent "SEA" passengers out there with comments?
Regards to all
SammyM
FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK..LOL I have just gone through this whole discussion with my cruise agent and an agent of NCL last Saturday.. We have taken the Majesty to Bermuda nine times.. and when we heard that the NCL Sea (a much older ship) was going to be going to Bermuda and docking in St. George, Hamilton and the Dockyard and noticed that there was a Lattitudes date that suited us I started calling.. Here is the scoop that most TA in MA don't know....They will provide transportaton from Boston for the new Dawn...but NOT for the Sea...Here's the great part...if you drive to Providence or Hartford.. NCL is providing a bus at $50.00 round trip). The rep from NCL said they don't want to take away business from the Majesty--that's what she said...So, I"ve booked my trip for the NCL Sea...Which by the way was the first cruise ship we were ever on aboug 15 years ago...I do love the Majesty and their crew, but I have for the past few years have yearned to be docked at the Dockyard and Hamilton if only for one day.. For more info please write.. BTW the prices for the Dawn (and from the pictures she is gorgeous) and Sea were very similiar, but I just didn't want the ports...

Peter you don't get it...After cruising from Miami I have sworn for the second time in all these years NEVER to go out of Miami again. Yes, there are a few negative thiings now about the Majesty as the show room being much too small, but it is the most re-booked ship in the NCL line.. Unlike myself there are many people who do not want to fly and the convenience of being on a cruise ship less than an hour from my home is very seductive....actually any cruise ship. Parking your car is $10.00 a day, the longshoremen that help are absolutely delighted when you drive up (compared to Miami),even the State Troopers are pleasant for heavens sakes..It's the whole cruising experience. I even enjoyed the old Seabreeze a few years ago...Can't you think of anything positive to say about this great and convenient cruise ship?

The only positive thing I can think of is that its convenient for you. For the rest of us, its not a ship I'd recommend.

I'd think you'd get tired of always going to Bermuda every year and would want to see the rest of the cruise world.

Peter...I'm not nor I intend to be in a "spitting contest" with you about NCL.. We have spent a week in Peru seeing Macchu Picchu before it became overrun with english pubs, Cartegna before it became a cruise port..San Blas Islands (the highlight of our cruising) before it became a hot bed....My recent experience on RC has given me the right to appreciate NCL for their embarking and disembarking procedures and courtesy of their staff. The snobbery of many cruisers on the ship who turned up their nose at NCL was surprising....the only ships they would mention going on would be Celebrity or maybe..Princess...Which cruise line initiated Internet Cafes, Freestyle Dining and now Dining Vouchers (for Bermuda).. Yes, we have been to St. Thomas (a week), St. Lucia, Barbados, Grand Caymens, Curacao, Aruba and other cruise ports..We as others are BOP's..Bermuda Obsessed People..Why..because Bermudians actually seem to like tourists. Of course tourism ends there the middle of October and they can go "off island"..compared to our experience other ports or countries where they just want to get your money and are completely rude.. In my hands I have the liist of 2003 cruise ships leaving from Boston or using it as a Port of Call....you'd be surprised.. and I'm not even counting the Majesty..In the winter we vacation in usually spanish speaking countries. Unfortunately, I have just read that Cuba is still off limits to Americans.. as soon as it opens to us (instead of going through Mexico or Canada) we will be the first ones there.. As for cruise ships..if they go where I want to go that;s fine..if they don't..well,I'm not interested..and for the possibly last time...we will do Bermuda..

Parrot Mom: How did the San Blas islands become a "hot bed?"
I, too, enjoyed visiting those islands.
And I also liked my many sailings on the SeaBreeze (when it was part of Dolphin Cruise Lines).Remember them?

Yes, I remember the SeaBreeze..sailed it to Canada before it was seized...the staff had the biggest heart of any cruise ship I've been on, including the Majesty.. I think it was either the Ocean Breeze or the Sea Breeze where we did a partial transit and stopped at the then very primitive San Blas Islands. At the time we saw their "hotel".. which was a hut with hammocks occupied by some backpackers from Europe.... Now, it's a popular destination spot from Panama. Heard from a woman who sent me her daily log of a vacatio in Panama with a side trip to the San Blas Islands... Check out San Blas on Google and you'll be amazed..guess you can't go back in time.

Well, these comments are interesting. I am headed off to Key West and Cozumel on the Majesty at the end of the month and am looking forward to it. It's my 3rd cruise and my husband's 2nd, though it seems that I have a lot of years between cruises.

Will be going on NCL's Sea in May from NYC to Nova Scotia. When anchored, how often to the tenders run back and forth to ship. In Boston, how close is the ship to walking sightseeing. In other words, will we need trans from ship to downtown, etc. Also same question for Portland, ME. This will be out first cruise, but would rather walk around than take the NCL offered tours. Any comments?? Thank you.

Not sure what ports are included, but if you are in Halifax (my favorite) you can walk the waterfront..but we hired a taxi driver and he took us to the graves of the Titanic victims whch was very moving. (his idea)..and then the Citadel..do not go to Peggys Cove...There is a maritime museum near the dock.. In St. John everything is within walking distance..and right opposite the cruise ships is a small lobster shack...Portland the Old Port has been refurbished and is great.. Boston..my city..unfortunately you will have to take a taxi to Quincy Market where you can hop a Tourist Trolley for a tour of Boston..I'm not sure if the Duck tours are also located there, but if they are...book one ahead of time online.. write to me for more info..
