Anyone out there?

Hi,
Just looking for advice on shore excursions in Dubrovnik, Corfu, Kusadasi and Santorini. The prices on Royal's website are astronomical. Any direction you can give would be helpful.
We'd also like to do the obligatory gondola ride in Venice. We are staying on the island one night after the cruise. Any thoughts or helpful suggestions?

Suz:

You might get more useful response if you report your question with a title that relates to the information you're looking for.

Cheers!

Suz, you might go to www.cruisecritic.com and then go to Boards. Lots of info under Ports of Call. Have fun.

Try this web site. www.portpromotions.com They claim to have tours much cheaper than the ship offers.

that site mentioned by Siljac requires groups of 15 or more in Europe so may not be of much use to couples/singles.

My wife and I r taking the same RCCL cruise in May. 7days, venice thru med back to venice. We have taken caribbean cruises before and normally get off ship and hail a cab or van, then do a private tour to whatever sights we like. We will probably do the same on this trip

Agree 100% with Tkerwin. Do a bit of research to see what the chief attractions are in ea. port, make a list that you want to do, get off, get a cab, go. Simple and way less $$. We've done it throughout the Med and Carib. Larry

I can speak for Dubrovnik...walked to bus station, easily bought ticket to & fro & walked within the walled city.
If you do this, go as early as possible
before other ships in port disgourge their hordes w/tour director in front
leading them like lemmings to the cliff. By 11 a.m. it became unbearable to walk around. Pay the nominal fee to walk atop the walls to
view the surroundings.

Okay , okay here is the e-mail for a private tour in Ephesus and/or Istanbul;

[email protected]
Write to Jenny:

I just got back 4 months ago from a Med Cruise.

In Mykonos, Santorini and Corfu, you do NOT need a tour guide unless you want someone to just drive you around.

Walking is the best for these places.

I can give you the name of a tour guide there but when I tried to book her for Mykonos ,she said:

"Percy you do not need a tour guide here."
She told me how to get from the cruise ship to downtown Mykonos.

Kusadasi is neat and you will enjoy it, but if you do some homework ,then you will only need to get to Kusadasi from the cruise ship and then walk around and see and enjoy.

Then take a short taxi ride to see the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Percy

Happy cruising!

Hi jacketwatch :

Yes I went in October.
I went 3 days earlier to Venice as that is where the cruise ship started from.

I had private tour guides at all the places except Mykonos.

I booked them all before I went.

For Istanbul and Ephesus, I called Jenny personally from home.

It is virtually impossible to go to Athens and some of the Islands in the mid summer as the temperature is over 100F !!!

In October the weather was great and I wore a jacket only when I got to Naples,as it was a bit cool in the early morning but soon warmed up quickly.

For Athens,Istanbul,Venice, Rome, Florence ,Marseilles, and Barcelona it was just slacks and short sleeve weather.

Mykonos was still hot at 85 F !

Please do a trip report when you get back from your Baltic cruise.

I am off in a few days for until early April for South America.

Take Care
Percy
