Any Suggestions from Cruisers?

My grandson and I went on a Celebrity Cruise to Alaska this past August flying into Seattle to board the ship. We were without luggage for 5 days on this 7 day cruise. You can imagine how difficult that was in that we left just after the London incident and carried almost no personal items aboard. There was a great deal of finger pointing about whose fault it was and many stories about what went wrong. I had to spend appx. $300 on clothes and toiletries (not things I would have chosen normally as we had little selection). Rather than settle anything on the ship, Customer Service there said they wanted to 'bump it up to Corporate' as our experience was so difficult etc. and we would be compensated. I had a claim form signed by them also. Well, I have written several times, tried to talk to someone when I called and could not get to anyone etc. and have received NO RESPONSE whatsoever. It is very frustrating and maddening. Does anyout out there have any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time.

Are you familiar w/ Conde Nast Traveler? A column entitled Ombudsman helps folks who have exhausted other possibilties.
You must document your travails w/xeroxes of the form, your correspondence to Celebrity, etc.
Get a back issue for the particulars.
And good luck-let us know the outcome.

Conniecat, did Celebrity lose your bags, or was it the airlines? Didn't you get them in baggage claim after you landed in Seattle? If Celebrity lost them, then didn't you spend the $300 aboard the ship? If you did, and they put the ship charges on your credit card, then did you try to dispute with the CC company?

Yep sounds like you ought to be fighting the airline not the cruise line....unless you knew the bags were passed to the cruise line at the airport. I suspect the bags got waylayed by the airline.

Who made the airline reservations: yourself, or a travel agent, or the cruise line?

And did you have any form of travel insurance? If it was the cruise line air program, they should be taking some responsibility. If not, you will be fighting the airline and should familiarize yourselves with their policies.

This is a situation when travel insurance would have been a help to you.
