Alaska vs Greek Islands - Which Cruise Should I Do?

Hello all! Me and my husband are trying to plan our vacation for next year. My two dream destinations are Alaska and the Greek Islands. I'm sure that there isn't a bad decision that can be made between these two destinations, but I was curious to hear some opinions of the relative strengths of both trips. We are newlyweds, and have no children. We are not party-types. We want a relaxing, quiet time together with good food, and great scenary. We are traveling from Boston.

Is one destination more expensive generally? What is the ideal time to travel to both locations?

Thanks in advance for your guidance and wisdom!!!

Although it's hard to imagine what one person would like compared to another I would have to throw my vote at Alaska. I've cruised Alaska and the Med (which included 2 stops in Greece) and found the beauty and rawness of Alaska much more spectacular than Greece. You can't go wrong with either but throw my vote towards Alaska.

If you are looking for relaxation and quiet times Alaska is a better choice than the Greek Islands--save them for a later cruise. Mediterranean cruises are very port-intensive with few days at sea. While Alaska is also rather port-intensive you avoid the additional hassle (?) of another language and culture.

The scenery of Alaska is superb;nothing compares to glaciers and possible wild-life sightings. You can spend as much or little time in ports as you desire and can "do" most ports on your own.

Personally, I think you should cruise to Alaska first and plan the Greek Islands for a future cruise. We've been to both and found Alaska more relaxing but Greece more fascinating in its history and culture. Whichever you choose you will have a wonderful experience.

Elena- I reccommend the Med Cruise- but rather go from Rome to Nice--rather than the Greek Islands- there is so much to see in the Greek Islands, that you would be dead!
But it is much more relaxing and picturesque down the Med from Rome to Nice to Barcelona-----

If you need anymore info, feel free to email me....

Since you are younger, I think you would like the Med better- Alaska has a lot more retired folks and the ports are good- but being younger, I would suggest excursions of helicoptering to the glaciers, kayaking ,salmon fishing---
That is my idea of Alaska--

The Med is Romantic, laid back, and extremely peaceful- We have done it 2 x and want to go back for a 3rd time-We do NOT tire of it....

Alaska is great. They have plenty of pine trees and mosquitos, glaciers, and a few orcas. They also have pine trees and bald eagles - lots of them. When you get tired of that you can always look for glaciers and orcas. Forget shopping, beaches, archeology, history, warm weather, or nearly anyone under the age of 1,000.

I have cruised both the Aegean on a 7-day Greek Island cruise and Alaska. Loved the scenery on both. True, more ports on Greek cruise, but they are the types of ports you can walk around at your leisure or do an excursion. More days at sea in Alaska. Overall I enjoyed the scenary more on the Greek Island cruise, though viewing glaciers calving was great and if you're into wildlife, Alaska may offer you more to see.

How can one possibly compare the two areas. They are totally different.

Best to do your homework and you decide what you wish to do on vacation.

Paul
