Alaska-Oceania vs Regent

Have cruised on regent and very much enjoyed it but it is getting quite expensive. For 2 it is almost $11,000 for a 12 day trip to Alaska leaving from SF and returning via Vancouver. Oceania has same category also leaving from SF but only 9 days for roughly $7,000. How would you compare the two lines. We really liked the fact that wine was free and room refrig is stocked with whatever you want on Regent but not sure it is worth the 4,000 difference. regent has a lot of free land excursions, how about Oceania? Anyone help me here?

I can't compare the two since we only sailed with Regent to Alaska, 7 nights out of Vancouver, a few years ago. Prices were less. The Regent experience was excellent; we really appreciated the complimentary wine with meals, the smaller ship and the free excursions.. The excursions were also excellent.

socaltraveler......I agree about the endless wine on Regent and it is a top notch cruise line. We cruised with them in Tahiti 5 years ago but I am concerned about the $4,758 difference for about the same size ship. That would buy a lot of wine! Oceania has 684 passengers vs about 500 on Regent. Curious as to which shore excursions you thought were great. Oceania cruises in June 2013 and the Regent trip leaves May 1. May 1 seems a bit early. What time of year did you sail?

I would have to dig out my folder for excursions, but I do know we sailed in late June, the days were very long and sunny, loved it. I agree May 1 is early, and there might be too much ice to get up the inlets on some of the excursions. I'm not sure if I could justify the $$$ to be honest; when we went Regent was offering some good incentives.

Perhaps someone at cruisecritic.com could give you a better answer.
