Alaska Cruises

My friend is thinking about a cruise to AK with her boyfriend (they're 30) and is wondering if they'll feel uncomfortable because of all of the retirees? She's concerned about activities geared toward their demographic, etc.

Also, is there a cruise line that's better for AK cruises for younger people than others?

Thank you on her behalf!

I am 34 and have been to Alaska 4x. I have never felt out of place or felt young amongst the other travelers.

I think Princess does an excellent job in Alaska but there will be more people her age on RCCL and Carnival.

Nowadays, Alaska isn't just for the retired - there are plenty of families and people are age onboard. On my last trip on Princess, I ate meals with four couples who were in their early 20's and on their honeymoons in Alaska.

It's funny but when you look at Alaska as a State it is full of young people, not old. There is so much outdoor adventure there, the state is made for young people. Every port will have daytrips to choose from and I guarantee shuffle board ain't one of them.

I agree - some of the great shore excursions are definitely targeted to those in the 20's and 30's age group.

I have cruised Alaska 10 times, including 3 on Carnival. Overall the bulk of passengers are middle aged and above on ALL lines, but all ages sail there. Just don't expect any party ships yet. Far more important in your choice in my opinion is what is OUTSIDE the ship- consider- ports, time in ports, route, glacier, price. Budget fully for costly excursions- you get only half a trip without them.
