Which island is right for me? HELP.
I've never been to the Caribbean before and am planning a trip for either May or June. Here are a few things about me:
I'm 30, female and single
traveling with a friend
I'm looking for beautiful beaches, great food, peaceful surroundings, interesting culture.
I'm NOT looking for commercial types of places.
I would like to stay as far away from the teen/early twenty party scene.
We are looking for peace and relaxtion.
Any suggestions?

Just a few more options that I thought of when I read your question...
Anguilla
Bahamas out islands (Abaco or even Elbow Cay)
British Virgin Islands
Those should meet most of your requirements. "Culture" is tough since it means different things to different people.
But since you've never been before, I would suggest a destination like St. John or even Aruba (Eagle Beach).
Good luck.

I think Grenada would be a great choice for you. Check out www.grenadaexplorer.com for a website that gives a great overview of the island, and check out www.grenadatravelforum.com if you have specific questions for the Grenada experts/fans there.

I'm not joking when I say that you can pretty much throw a dart at a map of the Caribbean and find an island that fits your needs - there are so many islands that offer what you are looking for.
Check out http://www.doitcaribbean.com/. It gives an overview of all the islands. Maybe that will help direct you.
Places I would avoid from what you describe - St. Thomas, Bahamas, and Cancun.

I would second the Grenada option, but also St Lucia. Great food, a variety of things to do, nice hotels in all price ranges. You might find www.destinationcaribbean.net helpful as they have info on lots of the islands. I'm sure that whereever you choose will be great as each island is quite different and unique in it's own way.

Not sure what is in direct flight for you but Grenada is a lovely island. Lots to see and do and real nice friendly people. Stunning beaches from the great Grand Anse to small shiny black "volcanic" beaches, small coves to long white beaches and all in between too. Rent a car for a day or two, so you can explore and whatever happens visit the "crater lake" for a walk and a swim if you like.
Great food in Grenada too, must try the traditional "Jacks".
Great island Grenada.

The answer is easy...ANGUILLA. Hands down the most relaxing island I've ever been too, and I've been all over the Caribbean. It's not crowded, has secluded beautiful beaches and some of the best restaurants anywhere in the world. We feel like noodles when we come home from there!

If you have never been to Negril, it is a must. Great food, beach, and the Jamaican culture is second to none. A true getaway from civilization. A pelethora of beach bars to cozy up to with the sand under your feet. Leave your shoes at home....now that is a vacation!
