which island for 4 nite stay?

I'm planning a 4 night stay on an island. Nice beaches, some nitelite, pretty surroudings and maybe a small town nearby. I want an all inclusive, moderate price range. Any suggestions? I will be going in November.

You might want to try the Mayan Riviera.

I agree with Jennifer's suggestion.
Try Playa del Carmen and points South of there along Hwy 307.
Great beaches and a bunch of AI's to choose from.

You don't say where you are coming from but obviously with short time, quick transport with no connections is key. I think St. Thomas would be perfect, lots of choice, a cute town for shopping, you can do boat trips for diving or to visit other islands, and plenty of choices on accomodation. I stayed at Marriott's Frenchmans Reef and thought it was fine and a pleasant though small beach. St. Croix is another possibility, the flights stop in St. Thomas and then continue on for 20 minutes to St. Croix. We stayed at what was then the Westin Carambola and loved it for diving, snorkelling, etc. It was more laid back than St. Thomas and had some fun beach-reggae type bars. The accomodations there are in planter-style two-story individual villas and the plantings are gorgeous. There are some historic homes you can visit if you want to rent a jeep, and another tourista type town for buying discounted goods. I liked the people in St. Croix a bit more than St. Thomas, they are less jaded, and I thought the ocean there was absolutely gorgeous.

Aruba is also a possibility with lots of direct, but longer, flights. Perfect, guaranteed sun, pretty beaches, cutesy town, nice dining and some very good hotel choices. Nice people. Not lush like the Virgins but for a 4 night quickie you have the elements you are looking for.
