#1 choice is Alexandra- newest, great location, beautiful stretch of beach, can walk to many dining options.
Coral Gardens- very busy locatin ( everyone comes here to snorkel and takes over the beach front) Units are older and could use a remodel, very close to beaches resort ( no thanks!)
Ocean clubs are nice mid range places, (West is newer)
many dining options and can walk to new grocery store.

You should take a look at Royal West Indies. Any room on the property is great. Also the restaurant Mango is really good and reasonable.
My second choice would be Ocean Club West. Have been to all but Coral Gardens. Alexandra is new but has alot of construction going on nearby and not as convenient.

Mango Reef at RWI is an excellent restaurant. Alexandra MAY have construction way in the back, call and check--as far as "convenient"...there are great spots to dine walking from the Alex. As far as shopping, etc RWI or OC West -yes more nearby.

Coral Gardens used to be a great place but has lost its way as it muddles through ownership issues. Used to have a Fodor's recommendation -- no more. The problems at Coral Gardens has forced us to try other places on the island with Ocean Club West the best of the others. I would stay away from the other Ocean Club which seems dated. OCW has a fantastic beach with a good beach restaurant. The water's calm, beautiful, but with nothing to see. OCW offers a pretty good package with limited dining and a car. (You absolutely need a car on the island to get out and around.) With that said, nothing beats the snorkeling at Coral Gardens. Beaches Resort is far enough down the beach to not be too intruisive. The 2 bedroom Penthouse (I think room 301) offers a great view of the ccean, is 2,100 square feet, and has all the amenities of home. Not only does it have a management problem but I believe the resort is being squeezed from developments to the back (which is owned by Coral Gardens) and to one side. They might be offering 2 nites free with a 5 nite stay which I think OCW is offering as well. We're going to try Point Grace this summer if we can get the right price which is a longshot. From our visits, it looks awesome and is more upscale that eith OCW, Coral Gardens and Turks and Caicos Club (where we also stayed.)

I also love The Somerset. Traveled there this spring and had an amazing stay. The property is absolutely stunning! And all of the suites are individually decorated and the Cottages are very spacious. O'Soleil and the pool restaurant are excellent.
There is live music at O'Soleil on Friday nights. It truly is a special place on Providenciales.
