Which Caribbean Location for us???

My boyfriend and I would like to travel somewhere in the caribbean this June. I enjoy lounging on a beautiful beach while he prefers a more active vacation and the city life. We are hoping to find a place that offers nice accomodations that are in walking distance to the beach and the city. We are not specifically looking to stay at one of the built up resorts. Can someone please recommend a good destination to satisfy both of us??

Go to St Thomas! It has the best of both. Gorgeous beaches and great shopping in St George. You can shop for hours and only get a few blocks. Many great restaurants, theater, etc. You will not be disappointed. We got married their 8 years ago and just returned from a visit last month. We hope to go for a week this summer with the children. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!

Most Caribbean islands do not have both nice beaches and a fun town. Curacao is a really fun and unique place that you would both enjoy. The town (Willemstad)is small but lively with a lot of Dutch charm as far as the architecture. There is good snorkeling at the Princess Beach where we stayed a couple of years ago and the beach is nice too. The island is quite arid but has its own beauty.

Another personal favorite is St. Kitts, lush and green, and not as developed. There is a lot of history and there are intimate cove beaches between the hills on the not yet developed south east peninsula. You can hike the volcano, take a catamaran cruise, see historic sites like Brimstone hill Fortress and plantation great houses, go kayaking, snorkel off quite a few beaches and find plenty of other things to do on this undeveloped paradise which is rich with history and natural beauty. We've stayed at Timothy Beach Resort and love the clean modern accommodations and friendly staff, Caribbean sunsets off the balconies and I could go on and on. www.timothybeach.com
Anyway whatever you choose have a great time!
We love St. Martin; however, you might consider Aruba. On one trip, we stayed at the Sonesta Suites. You can enjoy the day on the resort's beach (small) or you can take a short boat ride over to the private island (4 beaches), gym, restaurant, walking trails, etc.--very nice! Also it's right in the downtown area with plenty of restaurants (very good cusine) and shops. At night there's the casinos or dancing in several clubs and plenty of bars. One night a week there's an aruban cultural show with dancing etc. It's a lively town! If he likes golf, there's a really nice golf course (by taxi or you will have to drive), Tierra del Sol.
