Where to honeymoon in June?
Just curious if anyone has advice on where to go on a honeymoon in the middle of June? Our priorities are privacy, romance, relaxation, beautiful scenery and maybe a touch of cuture. We're trying to avoid crowds, children, and well, other people in general I guess. Also don't want to boil in the sun every day, so alternative activities to pools/beach (even nature hikes etc.) are welcome. Is the carribean the way to go? The huge advantage to us is the short flight from Baltimore; originally had been considering the Amalfi Coast of Italy.

Italy has sooo much more to offer for a honeymoon.<BR>Why did you change your mind?<BR>Cost? (It certainly ain't cheap).<BR>Flight length?<BR><BR>Understand that everywhere in the Caribbean will be 'boiling' in June, and that 'nature hike' implies vegetation, which means one of the very humid islands...which can be unpleasant in June with all the bugs and sweat etc.<BR><BR>Personally I'd do everything possible to make it to Italy. I was in a wedding there once and have travelled extensively in Europe (and the Caribbean) and Italy has so much more 'depth' to it than the Craibbean. You still get virtually all the things the Caribbean has to offer (depending on what part of the coast or Capri you visit), but you also get the rest of the country, the outstanding food, the history, the advantage of very disparate places like the Lakes and Alps in the north of Italy, Tuscany's storybook beautiful hill towns, Florence, Rome, Venice, Naples, Pompeii and on and on.<BR>I need to get back there myself!

The Caribbean does not always "boil" in June. In fact I was there last June/July and it was 80 degrees every day with low humidity and in NY it was 95 degrees with 100% humidity. Italy would be a wonderful honeymoon destination, but it is anything but relaxing and in the middle of June there will be crowds and probably children. Also, I would recommend to have at least 2 weeks for Italy since you lose at least 2 days flying. It's low season in the Caribbean which means lesser crowds and much better rates. There may be some children, unless you go to an adults only resort or rent a private villa. Check out St. John, the BVI's, St. Barts, Turks and Caicos to name a few. Hope this helps.

Average daily high temps in June:<BR>Turks/Caicos--86<BR>St. Thomas--89<BR>MoBay--88<BR>BVI's--86<BR>Aruba--89<BR><BR>Daily humidity peaks in the 80-85% range in June on the islands with vegetation.<BR><BR>87 degrees and high humidity may not be boiling to you...if you're from Miami.

To clarify, I would LOOVE to go to Europe, particulary Italy, but we only have a week for this trip and are afraid that's not enough time. We're planning to take a long holiday over there some other time when we can stay for awhile. So I guess the short flight time is the attraction to the caribbean, although we'd be willing to consider other places as well... just not sure what to do!

It is a shame you cannot do Italy but since you cannot lets put it aside for the time being. I would not rule out The Royal Hideaway in Cancun. It is all adults, the food is wonderful. You can ferry over to Cozmel. There are the ruins to explore. Not the Caribbean but might fit the bill. Check out there web site.

Kara, congrats on the upcoming wedding!<BR><BR>June is a great time in the Caribbean, right before the hurricane season starts in August (sometimes starts in July, too, tho).<BR><BR>I can understand your time constraints and you DO have a better advantage leaving from D.C./Baltimore than us in the NYC area.<BR><BR>I'd recommend Turks & Caicos, then St. John or British VI's also.<BR><BR>It's so hectic after the wedding stuff; you guys need to veg out, and for the less hassle of travel, these are the places I would go for what you've posted you're looking for.<BR><BR>Hope this helps; all the best!

Do check out St. John in the United States Virgin Islands where there are stunning villas available for rent as well as the Westin resort and Caneel Bay. The island is idyllic (yes, there are nature hikes) and the weather in June is delightful. Since I live in the VI year-round I can assure you that you won't be bothered with high humidity. St. John is very quiet, peaceful, romantic and gorgeous and if you want more activity you can hop on the ferry to St. Thomas for a day there. Check out usvi-on-line.com for all the information you'll need. Whatever, have a wonderful trip!

Congratulations, Kara. I teach, so I always go to the Caribbean in the summer time. Hurricane season officially begins June 1st, but the water surface temparature is usually not hot enough for many, if any storms to develop in June (I am experienced with hurricanes - I live in the south and survived direct hits from both Isadore and Lili this year).<BR><BR>June is not very hot in the Caribbean. If you stay at a resort on the beach, there are often sea breezes. Also if you go to a mountainous island, if you go into the highlands, it will be cooler.<BR><BR>The Amalfi coast is stunning - went there this past June. If you only have a week, that is NOT enough time for Italy. When traveling to Europe, it is better to go for extended time. I didn't suffer much from jet lag, but it did take me several days to get over it. If you only go for a week, you will just be getting over jet lag when you have to go back. You don't want to be sleepy during your honeymoon!!!!!<BR><BR>For a short trip, the Caribbean would be perfect. I would look for a place that caters to couples and does not allow children. The other benefit to going in June is that it is considered to be the off season - lower prices.<BR><BR>If I had to recommend one place it would be the Virgin Islands - both British and US. St. John is very pretty. And there is SO much to do - a wide variety of activities or you could do nothing at all. There are nature hikes, eco kayak trips, great snorkeling and scuba, sailing, shopping, etc. You can hop from one island to another. And there are beautiful beaches and romantic resorts.<BR><BR>Good luck with your decision.

Where do some of you people get your information from?<BR><BR>"info" guarantees that there won't be humidity in June in the USVI's. 80% humidity doesn't count as humid? On what planet?<BR><BR>"Cathy" says June is not hot in the Caribbean. Huh? June is only one degree cooler than the hottest months of the year, July and August.<BR>According to Cathy, then, if June is not hot, then it NEVER gets hot in the Caribbean. Ever.<BR>That'll be a surprise to the travel and tourism boards of the various isalnds.<BR><BR>And Cathy says that jet lag lasts almost a week when flying to Italy.<BR>Patently false. In fact, about half of all travellers get almost NO jet lag flying west to east. It's the east to west legs that bother them. No one knows why this is so. And with proper preparation, jet lag should never last more than 36 hours.<BR><BR>I used to have a lot more faith in the validity of the info provided at this board.<BR>

It's so obvious that it's the same person using different names to push the Virgin Islands in several posts a day here on Fodors.<BR><BR>It's probably a rental agent or some such low life who is too desparate to be subtle about their hard sell. They just try soooo hard to convince us....

I am not a rental agent. I can vouch for St. John. We looked at several islands and went on a few forums before we decided which island to marry/honeymoon. If we had to do it all over again. St. John would still be our first choice. Spectacular, romantic, printine, fun, clean. Lots to do or not to do.<BR><BR>I agree with the other posts. Rent a villa......<BR><BR>We decided on St. John and was more than pleasantly surprised. There are many many people who love St. John. I'm one of that many......

Linda is a lunatic. She got married last year on St John and honeymooned at Villa Argonauta.<BR>Ever since she got back she's been posting on Fodor's pretty much daily pushing St John and villa rental. She posts under many different names but they all sound pretty much the same. I'm as big a fan of St John as anyone but Linda seems to be obsessed.

I am planning my honeymoon for next june too! We have narrowed it down to St. John, Antigua and Aruba and have a travel agent looking in to some deals for that area. Does anyone have any suggestions/preferences for those 3 places? I don't mind the heat... 90 is ideal for me!<BR><BR>thanks!!!!!!

Salt, I am not sure you can read.<BR><BR>If you read what I typed, I said that the Caribbean is not VERY hot in June. I spent last June in Europe with the majority of time in Italy. Give me an island in the 80's with a breeze off the beach as opposed to Rome - in June - with heat intensified by concrete. Summers in southern Italy can be quite hot. I have gone to the Caribbean in the summer when the temperatures there are cooler than most cities in the United States at the same time of the year. Notice I said COOLER, salt, not cool. Yes, it is warm, but not sweltering. I nice swim in the ocean is great for cooling off.<BR><BR>I fly abroad often and having family members and friends who live overseas and travel quite extensively, and our experience has been flying from east to west is less disruptive than west to east. Yes, proper preparation ( avoiding alcohol, getting lots of sleep before hand, staying in sunlight, etc) helps. But each person is individual. 36 hours is an AVERAGE, not an ABSOLUTE. I was not sleepy in the day most days, but my sleep pattern was off and by day five, I was tired. Many people I have talked to have reported the same phenomenon.<BR><BR>Plus a week in Italy is not enough! In spite of the heat, I spent 5 glorious days in Rome and it was not enough.I wished I had longer on the Amalfi coast as well.<BR><BR>So, for the amount of time Kara has, a trip to the Caribbean is great for a honeymoon.

Kara, check out Ladera and the Jalousie Hilton in St. Lucia. Both are located between the Pitons, one of the most beautiful locations in the Caribbean. Both have plunge pools and privacy, a romantics dream vacation. We were there in June 2001,temp was perfect. This location between the Pitons catches a the trade winds that seem to keep it that way.

I got married in June of 2001. We went to Bermuda and had a wonderful time. The weather was great and the island is beautiful. We stayed at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort since we wanted to do an all-inclusive. The flight was great and there wasn't alot of children. Good luck!
