Where to go -- need advice
My husband and I honeymooned in St. John last December and had a wonderful time. We are currently planning our trip for our year anniversary and are looking for another great island in the Carribean. We loved St. John and are looking for an island similar in size, not overly crowded with tourist. We enjoyed renting a jeep for a week and snorkeling at the different beaches but would also like to stay at a semi-large resort. Can anyone recommend another island in the Caribbean which may match our criteria?
Thanks

We are going to St. John's next because of the great beaches. We recently vacationed in Grand Cayman because our priority is great beaches and I am sure that you know GC has great water(especially for snorkeling and scuba). Everyone has a differing opinion whether to rent a condo or stay at a hotel on GC. We stayed at the Westin on 7mile beach. Next time we will definately rent a condo. Check out Villas of the Galleon, which is located next to the Westin(the best strip of 7mile beach). Others on this message board have great things to say about the other condos, so if your interested, you should do a search on old threads.

I suggest you try the British Virgin Islands, in part because of what you have said in your e-mail is important to you.
My husband and visited the USVI a number of times, but for the past 7 years have chosen the British Virgin Islands next door.
We wanted NO crowds and not even very many inhabitants. We have settled on two properties; the first is Frenchman's Cay, our favorite. It is very small, has phenomenal views of the entire Sir Francis Drake Channel, and is run by a couple that have been there for about 20 years. There are 7 cottages on a hillside just above the main grounds. Each is a 2-story and the whole thing is yours.
We very much enjoy the full kitchen which gives us the opportunity to fix our own lunches and chill out on the porch which looks over the whole resort out into the channel.
A car comes with the package.
Regarding the BVI, Frenchman's is on Tortola. Tourism is a secondary industry, therefore, you will find that you do not have resorts crowded together. It is FAR less touristy than St. Thomas and even St. John.
The atmosphere is a great blend of island culture with some Brit mannerliness stirred in. Everyone is friendly.
A nice indicator of how homey the BVI is is the fact that it is illegal to build any structure taller than a palm tree. They have their priorities straight, in my opinion, Jess! Feel free to write us at [email protected], anytime.

I would recommend Long Bay Resort on Tortola - it's the largest resort on the island, but it's far from huge. In my opinion, just the right size. The views from the hilltop rooms are fabulous - each room faces the ocean. The hills are rather steep so if that's a problem, stay in the lower sections near the pool, or ocean front. There are two restaurants but we chose to go off site most nights. Pusser's was one of our favorites. The resort never seemed crowded and the beach is one mile long and beautiful - plenty of room and most days was half deserted. Be sure to rent a car! The views from the hills of Tortola are spectacular.

Nevis is a great island. I have stayed at Caneel Bay in St. John and thought it was wonderful and I would say the Four Seasons on the island of Nevis is similar in size (maybe smaller) but awesome. Great beach, delicious food, outstanding views and golf course and staff is 5 stars. Also the sister property for Caneel Bay is Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda which is great also. Really liked it there as well.
