Wedding at Radisson, honeymoon where? Please help!
Am really enjoying reading this message board. Can anybody out there please help me??

My fiance and I have been saving for over a year now and have finally got enough together to be able to afford a wedding in the bahamas. We're travelling from England so it works out pretty expensive.

We've decided on the wedding at Radisson Cable Beach after reading all the great posts about the hotel. However, we want to move to another hotel/island for the honeymoon. Can anyone suggest anywhere we can get to that won't cost too much more then we are already paying? I read some posts about Aruba and it sounds lovely but it's costing a small fortune to get to bahamas without having to travel the extra distance to Aruba again.

We ideally want a big resort type hotel with a nice beach and pool area. And also, all inclusive would be preferable.

We initially thought about Our Lucaya but have read some reviews that have put us off. Also, from England you can only seem to book all inclusive staying at the Reef Village. I don't know if it's the same booking via anywhere else. We would rather stay at breakers cay but have been told that's not possible. So now we have to look for another hotel.

Any suggestions would be most gratefully accepted.

Thanks in advance!
Suni.

Thanks Maureen. Will check that out.

Also forgot to ask...is the weather in March or June better in the Bahamas? The temperatures in March seem quite low. However, June is meant to be hurricane season isn't it? Don't want to be rained on every day!

In the Bahamas, the Winter season is from December to April. The rainy season is from May-June and Sept.-October.
When you view Where2Stay, note the other outer islands in the Bahamas and the reviews of the hotels, Tiamo is lay back and very small, may not be what you're looking for. Good luck!

Why get married at one hotel and honeymoon at another if you are travelling such a long distance? I think it would be more economical to get married and honeymoon on the same island. Our stay at the Radisson Cable Beach hotel was so horrible that I wrote a letter to the tour company who managed to get us back $600.00. I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but since you are coming such a long distance I felt that you should know that not every post about this hotel is great. I would sooner get married in hell than the Radisson Cable Beach! By the way, the temperature in the Bahamas in March can be chilly and while June is the official start of the hurricane season, hurricanes usually happen during September and October.

There are other lovely islands. St. John, USVI, St. Barts are two of the prettiest we've seen.

We liked St. John, USVI better. Saw a few people getting married on the beach and it was so beautiful. Most people we talked to preferred renting a villa there. It ends up being less expensive.

If you want a resort..The Westin would be in your budget and they also have a lovely Gazebo on the grounds. The beaches though on St. John are gorgeous.
You should consider checking this place out.

USVI Online forum can answer a lot of questions.

Congratulations
Marueen too
Thanks Ellen, Maureen and Maureen 2 for your advice!

I'll have a look at the USVI messages too. I'd never even considered St Johns. But if you say it's nice then it's worth checking out.

Ellen, I hope you don't mind me asking but why was your stay at Radisson so horrible? I wonder if I've missed something because I've read so many messages saying how nice it is.

Also, the reason for moving to a different hotel for the honeymoon is because we have a few family members coming who will be staying at the same hotel as us for the wedding. Also, as we're coming so far we thought it might be nice to visit a couple of hotels/islands (as long as it's not too expensive of course!)

Thanks once again.

From the minute we checked in, and they made us feel like cattle, I knew we had made a bad choice. We basically did not like anything about the hotel. The food was awful, never hot and the service was very poor, 2 of the restaurants were closed and since it was All Inclusive (which we will never ever do again) we were annoyed. We actually ended up eating a lot of our meals at the Marriot next door. The rooms were in need of repair, the housekeeping service left a lot to be desired and one of the maids cross examined me as to why I wanted an extra towel. The chairs on the beach were hard plastic and when I got a float to put on the chair, the guy told me that I could only keep the float for two hours because they did not have enough for everyone. Jokingly, I asked him what was he going to do if I didn't return the float and he said we would be charged $50.00. I could not believe it. I actually went to the front desk and they said this was true. I was shocked. Then there was a couple of days we could not sit at the beach because there was no shade left. We needed to be at the beach by 8 PM to get shade. The hotel was poorly managed and the staff at the front desk could have cared less about us. We tried to find another hotel to go to, but it was the high season and nothing was available, so we grinned and beared it. We are not picky people and usually never complain, but when we spend our hard earned money on a vacation and we are treated with no respect, that's a problem for me. In all fairness, this was 3 years ago, so maybe they have improved. However, the Bahamas is just an OK island. There are so many other beautiful islands in the Carribean: Anguilla, St. Barts, St. Martin, St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Grand Cayman even Cancun, all of which have beautiful beaches and hotels that I'm sure would fit your budget and are much nicer than the Bahamas. Also, as Maureen suggested I've heard wonderful things about St. John's and the BVI. Since you are coming so far and want to possibly check out a couple of islands, the BVI may be your best choice. St. Thomas is very close and the shopping there is great and the BVI and USVI are very close also. Check out Caribbean-on-Line. There are a lot of trip reports on various island and most of the forums there are very helpful. Also, if your thinking of getting married in March, go further south in the Carribean, the weather will be much warmer. Congratulations and good luck.

Ellen,

Isn't it funny how the people that post on this board with such trivial complaints (we couldn't keep the float for more than 2 hours...how dare they, we thought we were going to be the ONLY 2 people staying at the hotel!!)always say they NEVER complain? You couldn't sit on the beach cause there was no shade? You had to be up by 8? And this is news to you?

To anon: I usually ignore ignorant people like yourself who have no idea what I want or don't want on a vacation, but I'm having a bad day, so if I want a float for more than two hours, or shade on the beach or sleep past 8 I am certainly entitled to it. It's my vacation, not yours. So go back in your cage!

Suni:

You might want to consider Eleuthera or Harbour Island for your honeymoon. You can fly on Bahamas Air (about a 15 minute flight) or more romantic is the ferry www.bahamasfastferries.com The price is about the same $100rt so you could take the ferry one way and fly the other.

The Cove on Eleuthera would be wonderful for a honeymoon or Runaway Hill on Harbour Island. Both are right on the water and are small boutique resorts. Runaway only has 10 rooms. Another option would be Romora Bay also on Harbour Island. The accomodations are villas overlooking the bay.

Try these websites for more info.

www.runawayhill.com
www.romorabay. com
www.briland.com (info on Eleuthera and Harbour Island)

Hope you have a wonderful trip.

tweedy

I have been to Harbour Island and also St. John, USVI (where we were married on). I can tell you St. John far exceeds Harbour Island. It's much more picturesque.

We got married on Trunk Bay at sunset last year, rented a villa and hired a chef to cook the dinner. I have read on this post many others have done the same thing and had the same wonderful experience as we did.

Harbour Island has one pretty 3 mile beach and that's about it.

St. John has a beautiful quaint town with lovely shops, great restaurants and a few fun bars, gorgeous beaches and much more to do. Just an opinion of one who has been to both islands.

My preference would be to be married on
one of the gorgeous beaches of St. John and either rent a villa or stay at either Caneel Bay resort or the Westin.

Good luck!!! and Congratulations!!!

Ellen, dear, dear Ellen....thank you for once again legitimizing my previous post...didn't your mom ever teach you to share? After all, the world doesn't revolve around you. However, if you want to think that, go ahead, you'll be the one suffering the consequences. I hope we will get to fight for a float one day!!
