Mid-May is normally high 80's and sunny. The rain that does crop up generally is brief and gone before you know it.
July will be considerably hotter and somewhat more humid. It is also the very beginning of hurricane season. The risk of hurricane in July is fairly small but it is there. If I had a choice I'd go in mid-May.
As a matter of fact that IS when I'm going next spring!
Have fun!

Weather will be comparable in terms of temperature and humidity. However, it does rain more in mid-May than in mid-July. May is when the dry spells of February, March and April are finally broken. June and July are typically pretty dry, and then August, September, October and November are the rainiest months. December and January are usually pretty dry too, just not as dry as Feb, March and April.

In this area, it is unusual to find constant rain for a day or more, unless there's a storm system. Usually, it will rain for 20-30 minutes in the afternoon and it will clear up again.
