water temp in winter

Can anyone tell me if the water temps in T&C are too cold to get in the water in the winter? Would it be better to go in the fall?

thanks

Water temp. in winter should be mid-to-high 70s. Fall a little warmer. To be sure of over 80, you'd need to be roughly from Guadeloupe or Martinique on south in the winter.

We like warm water, and we were in Provo Dec. 6-14, found the temp. just warm enough for our taste (would have preferred a tad warmer).

I would probably avoid later in Dec., and Jan., but plenty of people disagree with me.

according to provo.net (a very good site by the way) winter water temp is 78-82. summer water temp is 82-86. air temp 77-85 winter, summer 88-95. hope this helps you plan.

Agree with the comment on Martinique and south. Cayman water in December when we were there two years ago was 79 degrees. Felt good. But it can be a degree or two different. Provo I can't see being much different due to the latitude. Bahamas can be chilly in Dec.

We were in Provo once early Jan. Not sure what the temp was, but we could swim, and snorkel without a problem, but I would have preferred it a tad bit warmer myself.

Cayman tends to have warmer water than Provo because although the latitude is similar, the Caymans (and Jamaica) are "protected" from the Atlantic by Cuba.

I like to monitor water temps at www.wunderground.com (tropical link).
