Was told by a discount travel agent that Sandals Dunns River had a nicer beach than Sandals Negril????

Is the beach at Sandals Dunns River nicer? From what I've read, Negril's beach is wonderful?

Negril is way better than DR. Ask you agent when he/she last visited the properties and you'll probably find that they've never been!! Find another agent!

the beaches in Negril are much better than in Dunns River, you have about 7 miles of sandy beaches to walk/run or swim in Negri.. DR is usualy rocky & more restricted.

That agent doesn't know what they are talking about. Find someone else that knows more about the destination.
Negril has a beautiful beach. Dunns' River has a short narrow beach.

I agree with the other Posters.
Negril has the nicest beach of the two.
Montego Bay has the 2nd nicest.
Dunn's Beach is better than Ocho Rios or Royal Jamaican.
Your Discount Agent does not know their Sandals Properties. Find one who does.
I have actually seen all of these and stayed at Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Royal Jamaican, Royal Bahamian and Beaches Turks and Caicos. Many agents have personal experience.
The Discount may not be worth it, if they do not know what they are Selling.

Negril is said to have the better beach, but due to heavy rains this year the beach in Negril is very, very narrow making it impossible to walk the 7 miles. The water goes right up to some of the hotels at some points. Dunn's river Sandals has an amazing beach is it is wide and all of the pools/waterfalls are right up next to it. I've been to both properties and both are great but just because Negril is know for it's beautiful beach, don't count out Sandals Dunn's River- the atmosphere is fun, beach is great, and Ocho Rios is way better than Negril!

Thanks for all of your responses. What makes Ochos Rios better than Negril?

I have to disagree withn Angela about the beach at Dunn's River. NOT wide nor long. And Ocho is ok but Negril is more fun.

So Maria, have we got you totaly confused now? Sorry, we all have our opinions, you will probably just have to see for your self. I love Jamaica, so I would go to any of the areas and have a wonderful time. It is all beautiful. Go with your feeling and relax about your choice.

I appreciate everyone's opinions! It really helps! Already have arrangements made for Sandals Negril but was comparing what we paid to a discount agent "quick quote." They were only around $285 less. I feel more comfortable with an agent I can visit for that little savings. Discount guys "Dunns River" quote, which I didn't ask for, was more than Sandals Negril. Maybe Sandals Dunns River or Ochos Rios, whichever it is is just more expensive, or he gets a kickback!!!?? His suggestion is what confused me because many postings I've read, travelers loved Negril!

Thanks! I know we are planning on it! Any suggestions on excursions? We were planning on the day trip to Dunns River Falls. Is it best to book through the tour desk at Sandals?

Maria,
Dunn's River is going to be a LONG DAY from Negril. It is fun but plan on a 4 to 5 hour bus ride each way. You really should try the resort certificed scuba diving. If you have ever thought about scuba they will teach you and you can dive everyday for free. It is a wonderful expirence. Once you do that and you won't want to leave the resort.

If you do book side trips do them though the resort's tour desk. They will have a video camera and you can view and purchase the video later.

Thanks for the tip on the booking through the resort's tour desk. That great that they video for you to buy if you'd like to! No one has told me about that! I've heard it's a long trip but I haven't heard anyone really complain too much. I'd hate to miss it, but...I think it will be interesting seeing the rest of the island even if it is by bus, and not the most comfortable ride.? Anything else to try? I'm considering the diving but I'm a little closterphobic (not sure how to spell) I'd love to try it though?!

You don't have to go to Dunn's river falls and you don't have to miss cool Jamaican waterfalls, just go to YS Falls or Mayfield Falls - they are both under 2 hours from Negril, Mayfield a tad closer. Both are also beautiful, offer great swimming, less climbing than Dunns and far less crowds.

PS: the beach did get narrower in Negril at the top, but it got wider at the bottom. In the middle you wouldn't know unless you'd seen it before.

About mid-beach, you sometimes have to go in the water to pass structures that are too close to the water.

I'm not sure what went on up by Sandals.
