My wife and I stayed at the Hibiscus Beach Hotel on St. Croix about 4 years ago. We loved the island, and visited Carambola Resort. It was plush and nice, with a nice beach. The approach to it, descending down a ridge, was breathtaking. The golf course, which I didn't play on, was well-kept and immaculate. The rates were about $69 per person, including cart for 18 holes.Playing after 2pm was much less. Rent a 4-wheeled jeep and tour the island, breathtaking turns and views on the island. Go to Buck Island with the wife and kids for a snorkeling tour with guide. Beautiful reefs there, although some destruction from the tourists, but not much. Go anywhere on the island, people friendly as heck everywhere we went, including walking through Christiansted. Have fun. Oh, drive along Magogany Rd. through the rain forest. See ya. Bob Morton

Neil: I almost forgot another neat thing to do on St. Croix. Next to the Hibiscus Beach Hotel, which has neat island bands every Friday night, is a horse ranch(horse racing is big on St. Croix). A local vet owns the place, and he allowed his stable men to let my wife ride won of the horses up and down the beach through the palm trees. Got some great pictures. Believe it or not, the horse she rode on was the brother to "Seattle slew", the famous championship race horse. The stable boys train the horses by swimming them in the ocean and running them in the sand by the Hibiscus Beach Hotel- that's how we met them. Friendly people! Stop in and say hi! to them. you may end up riding some neat horses. And no, I'm not from AAA SE Ohio. I'm just a friendly tourist to the caribbean each year, and whose made many Caribbean friends by not being a demanding, sarcastic tourist who prefers islanders acting in an obsequious manner. Email me if you want more specifics on St. Croix. We've got plenty of people and places to visit there. See ya, Bob Morton

The only problem that I can see is that the resort is very far from Christiansted. Unless you are planning to rent a car it could be pricy to get back and forth to town. For a nice property closer in you might look into Mill Harbor or Colony Cove. Both are condo properties a little over two miles from town. They are on the water and quite nice with two bedroom and two bath suites that are a home away from home. I suggest that you take a half or whole day trip to Buck Island. Even if you are a first time snorkler you will have the time of your life. I lived on the island and will be returning in August and I can not waite to get into the water. Enjoy a little bit of heaven.
