Turks and Caicos question

I am about to book a 10 day stay at Coral Gardens..a few last questions. Is there internet access anywhere close? We hear about mosquitos, are they bad in March? I keep hearing that it is quiet. How quiet? Are there families on the beach? Will our 17 and 15 year olds be bored? Is Coral gardens isolated from other resorts?
Thanks

I've never been to the Turks and Caicos but I can't imagine being bored at one of the Caribbean's most stunning beaches in March or any other time of the year. T&C is also known for its snorkeling so I would think that activity should engage the interest of anyone who loves the sea.

We were at the Sands in May this year and visited CG. We did not find the mosquitos to be bad anywhere on the island. CG has a nice reef off thier beach so there always are people around though did not see too many kids. I don't think your kids will be bored. You could do some day trips to nearby cays. Visit other beaches like Sapodilla on the other end of the island. If you really want to be with other families you may want to consider Beaches resort (though that appears to be geared more towards younger kids).

It is difficult to predict if you will have a problem with mosquitos (and maybe "no-see-ums&quot in March as it is not really the time of year that makes them active but rather weather conditions. Mosquitos are more prevalent after periods of rain 9which you are not likely to get in March) and when there is very light or no breeze. Also, mosquitos, if they do come out, are most active in the 15 or so minutes just before and just after sunset and they are more active the closer you are to the beach or if you frequent areas near ponds or standing water.

I personally, have never experienced any problems with mosquitos on my visits to Grace Bay but it wouldn't hurt if you used insect repellant around your feet and ankles if you are planning to be on the beach at sunset.

You teenagers will find very good snorkeling right in front of Coral Gardens and they can avail themselves of other watersports at locations around the island.

Coral Gardens advertises wireless internet but we found it to be sporadic on some days and received the best signal on the terrace outside our room. – Tough, huh! We actually had to sit outside!

We visited in August and took our 16yr old, there were no other teenagers staying at the resort on the week we visited, a few ‘little ones’ but no one for him to socialize with. Isolated? Yes, I’d say so although the beach outside can get busy with visitors to the reef.

No mosquitoes while we were there and if there had have been just one you can bet I’d have known about it - I’m a total Mosquito Magnet, they bite me before anyone else

T&C in general is a quiet island and you might need to rely on water sports to keep them happy, unless of course they like snorkeling – in which case they will be in their element. Our son loved the jet ski trip him and his Dad took, especially since he did most of the driving.

We only went for a week but we were ready to go home at the end of the vacation. We had a wonderful relaxing vacation but relaxing can get boring after a while.

There's a trip report that I did here somewhere.

hi keegan, i have watched ppl doing what i think is called kiteboarding or sailboarding?. there is parasailing. jet skies can be rented at the leeward marina (east end of provo). also at leeward you could rent a small boat and cruise out to one of the little cays by yourselves (the boats even have a built in cooler well). provo is known for bonefishing (stand in water, cast, fight hard for a fish that is fairly small). rent a jeep for a day and try to drive out to malcolm road beach. take anything you will need (food, water) there are NO facilities.
and if there is any place on grace bay with a little more happening than the rest of the beach it is def coral gardens. ppl go there every day for the snorkeling.
use bugspray at dusk (ankles especially) and right after any rain showers.
i would suggest you rent a car/jeep. unless you plan to eat at coyaba and the beach bar every day as the restaurants are spread all up and down the beach.
i'll be on island 3/18 until 4/2 - staying in villa near turtle cove marina . will you be there any of those days?

Have been to Provo about 20 times and stayed at Coral gardens 15 times. Never had problems with mosquitoes. Take a few precautions--Close sliding doors at dusk, bug spray is the perfume of choice on Provo. Most dining is partially outdoors so I normally wear long pants and my wife slacks. Shorts in the evening just leave more skin exposed. There is WiFi access on the balconies and a computer at the Beach Cafe for guests use (Free). Coral Gardens is really nice and can't imagine your boys will be bored especially if they are into snorkeling etc. The spa is excellent and you get free 1/2 hour destress massages within 36 hours of arrival.
