Trouble selecting from all the great places!

Hello all! I'm wondering if you could give me some advice. My husband and I are looking for a great Caribbean vacation! We're planning on going in early/mid August (only vacation time we have) and are in our late 20's. We love nightlife and culture and are looking for something new by going 'down south'. We've done the Mexico/Canada/Europe thing to death. Do any of you have any suggestions? Oh...we're not misers but, then again, we want to get what we pay for! Thanks! Mel

Best bets:
Bermuda
Grand Cayman
Barbados
Aruba

Nightlife is missing at many of the Caribbean's best resorts/islands (Anguilla, Turks/Caicos, BVI's, etc), and if you've travelled a good deal in the past I'm betting you wouldn't be thrilled with Jamaica, Bahamas-Paradise Island, St. Thomas and such.

Try Paradisus Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, or in Aruba at any resort but La Cabana unless you like hordes of children at your resort--Wyndham, Radisson or Hyatt are good choices.

Dear Mel,
Definitely St. Barts. Great beaches, nightlife and atmosphere. Upscale and hip.

Mel,
People in their 20's sometimes don't want to hear Caribbean/Calypso music for "nightlife". Do you mean casinos?
You might enjoy Cancun- but since you said Mexico, you might have done that. Cayman has lots to offer, but is expensive. St Barth's is unbelievably expensive. St Martin might be a good choice for you. They drive on the right, so it's pretty easy to get around. The combination Dutch/French influence is unique. I suggest going to the library and getting a Fodor or Frommer book about the Carbbean and start comparing some places.
