Trip review - OCW Providenciales

Returned on the 23rd and we were there for 8 days. Weather was overcast and windy the first 3 days but still very warm. The rest of the week the weather was great. We loved OCW; we had a one bedroom suite #621. Very clean and large. The housekeeper (jenny) was so very attentive! The front desk was great and very accomdating! Our only complaint about the resort was the restaurant (their only one) their service was terrible and unfriendly! There was only one person who seemed to care about his job and enjoy the customers, and his name was Ricky. The food was fair at best. We only had lunch there as we were too lazy to go to our room and make a sandwich! OCW is much smaller than OC and in much better shape. We rented a car from Grace Bay Rentals, very nice and cheap! We toured the island and had a great time! We did a 1/2 day kayak tour with BIG BLUE! Great company and Bret our guide was FABULOUS!! We did the tour of the Conch farm! Very intersting! Our favorite find was a empty beach off of Longbay Beach Highway rd. with crystal clear water and tons of red star fish and conch (which we picked up and inspected and of course put back as they were alive!)
Our favorite eats; Tiki Hut, Bella Luna, Hemmingways, and the sushi bar by the IGA. We loved shopping at the IGA to stock up on Dunkin Donuts coffee to brew in the morning in our room and Kashi cereal for a healthy breakfast (saved a lot of money too!) We enjoyed the large screened in patio with a chaise and table and chairs which we ate breakfast at everyday! If your looking to relax this is the island for you. If you want sensory overload go to Aruba, Bahamas (Atlantis), etc.

I'm leaving in about 2 weeks - been to Provo twice so far, but haven't seen this beach (not that I've ventured out past Grace Bay beach much) but I LOVE seeing starfish!

How does one get to this beach? And I need specifics as my sense of direction really stinks!

Dear VegasM,
A couple on Grace Bay beach told me about his location and its a bit hard to find, but so worth the trouble. Get on Leeward Highway East (toward the Conch farm) make a right onto Long Bay Hwy Rd. (all dirt and extremely bumpy from this point!)Follow the map to Long Bay Beach Drive and there will be a narrow dirt road on your right (it looks like beach sand) drive down as far as you can go (for us it wasn't that far because we had a Toyota Corolla!) and you'll see the opening to the beach a few feet away! Spectacular!! Let me know what you think and find!

Hi giggyice. Looking at OCW for our next trip to T&C in late July '08. Can you pls let me know if there was any construction going on anywhere near the resort??? Stayed at Coral Gardens last summer and although we really enjoyed the resort - the construction from the Windsong next door was really annoying (they would start at 6am EVERY morning including Sundays)!!! This year we don't want to have the construction right on top of us! I realize that the island is continually being built up - I just don't want to be right next door to it! Thanks for any help you can give us!

Beachbum1024,

Hello! Well, i've read plenty of reviews that said people were bothered by construction, however in the room i mentioned i heard nothing during the pm hours and early am. The only thing that might bother you is that the windows are louvers, so in order to have privacy you must close them. They darken the room well. It didn't bother us as we closed them and put the air/fan on at night. During the day we had the air off and all the louvers open. It was fabulous! Everything is screened including the patio. I hope this helps.

We stayed in Bld 6 and loved the beach and the resort. We never ate in there resturant. OCW is much nicer than the other one due to the fact its newer, and I thought its beach area was far nicer. We had no noise with construction, only the night we ate at the Iguna, but it stoped after 9.Only noise problem came from young children at the pool early in the morning.

Yada,

Sorry it took so long to answer your question! Anyhow, we saw a lot of young children at the beach everyday ranging in ages as young as two and older. Of course, the real young ones were in the water w/ parents, but the older ones (i'd say 6 and up) were playing at the edge of the water w/ no problems. Frankly, i was surprised at the amount of children both at the pool and beach. Its a great family destination. My son is 15 and he even met a great boy his age. I dont think you'll be dissapointed. However, if your looking for total kid atmosphere, then surely you should go to Beaches Resort. I hope this helps! Enjoy!!

Yada,

i forgot to answer your other question...I don't think we saw too many areas that weren't under construction. It's everywhere in Provo, but we were not bothered by it at all, and everyone we met felt the same. The Seven Stars resort is really close by OCW and that is nearly finished and then you go the opposite direction toward OC and there is another luxury Condo place going up. Like i said, we were in room 621 and were not bothered.
