We went to Manati Park which we really enjoyed.. small enough to gt around and a very friendly staff. We went to the Dolphin show and afterwards discovered they had been cited several times for deaths of dolphins in their care. There is a sign telling they are building a bigger facility for them, but it doesn't help the animals they have now.

Dave,
We went to Punta Cana last January. I took a trip to Saona Island. I had a great time. We took a chartered bus to Bayahibe which I recall is a 1.5-2 hour ride from Punta Cana (including a stop to get refershments and souvenirs. We then took a catamaran to saona island. This was a total booze cruise (if you wanted it to be). Plenty of rum and coke and merenge music. We then spent 4 hours or so on the beach. We had a lunch prepared for us there. The beach was rather attractive and unspoiled since it is located in the National Park of the East. On the way back we took a motorboat and made stops to look for dolphins and to go snorkeling in the clear waters. This trip was also offered from our hotel with a stop at Los Altos de Chavon which is a recreation of an artist colony and one of the most popular tourist attractions in the DR. It depends on your tastes, but this trip was rather enjoyable for me.

Bavaro Runners or Outback "Jeep"(truck) Safari!!!
Excellent . Only diff I think is that the Bavaro Runners include a short horseback trip and may cost $6 more per person as the outback Jeep safari was marked down to $69 from $75 per person. we took the Safari and it was excellent. For reviews of both go the Debbie's Dominican Republic Site. I'd skip manati, maybe do a snorkel tour from your hotel ($20) and if doing one more I wold have done Saona Island or Santo Domingo if you're more into touring a town. JUSt back and burned, hot , even though reports say cloudy. and hour of clouds a day while still HOT. Take Deep Woods OFF and sunblock and pack little. Bathingsuits and evening wear. A few shorts and t's for walking around grounds from beach if you want. Really. Take English reading material too. And Immodium, we kept taking it and living it up. We loved it. Stayed at Catalonia Bavaro and enjoyed it immensely. Pack swim suit in arry on as we couldn't check in untio 3 pm.. Enjoy ..Sorry got rambling, take a tour for sure!
