Larry,
I used to watch Baseball alot..I liked the Orioles.I also liked the Bulls being that they had MJ who is from my state.
It would be nice to see the Red Sox win the World Series..someday!If I remember correctly..they have never won.

Jacketwatch, as a Chicagoan, can you root for both the White Sox AND the Cubs? In New York, where I grew up, you were either a Mets fan OR a Yankees fan (poor me, I'm a Mets fan) - but never both. Admittedly, it wasn't very sporting of us, but we actually rooted AGAINST the hated Yankees when they were in the World Series. I guess the great folks in Chicago aren't as small-minded as we were.
By the way, I was hoping Houston would win because Roger Clemens gave us old-timers hope that our best years weren't all behind us. Alas, not this year.

Laby: I am afraid some still are. There is a definite Cub vs. Sox rivalry. I am a fervent Cub fan which means, as Marion knows by being a Red Sox fan, you are very familiar with suffering. However there are many who Cub fans who IMHO did the right thing and rooted for the Sox. Afterall they ARE in Chicago. A buddy of mine at work is a fervent Sox fan but in 2003 when the Cubbies teased us yet again he pulled for them and even paid alot of $$$ for tickets to game 7 vs. the Marlins. OTOH we hear stories of Sox fans who danced in the streets when the Cubs lost that game and of Cub fans who rejoiced at past Sox failures. Actually I heard that last night in Wrigleyville it was very quiet at the bars but last yr. when the Red Sox were in it it was pretty busy. My best answer is few can be fervent about both, some can root for the other under circumstances like this one and many still see it as a Hatfields-McCoy type of rivalry. Me, I'm going out to get some Sox championship t's, hats, etc.
