Things to do while in St. Lucia

My fiance and I are going to St. Lucia for our honeymoon this month. We will be staying at Sandals Golf Resort. We need advice on things we must make sure we do while there. We definately want to do the horseback riding ,visit the volcano and go snorkeling. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You should definitely try to take a day-sail up the coast to visit the volcano. Typically included in that trip is a visit to the botanical gardens and snorkeling on the way back. A beautiful way to spend the day.

This may sound strange but I recommend taking a shopping tour if you really like to shop. Shopping is largely decentralized; the tour lets you sample a diverse range from Eudovic's wood carving gallery, Caribbean perfumes, Caribelle batiks, the Castries Central market, to Duty-free shopping at Pointe Seraphine.

In Feb 1997, my wife and I were in St. Lucia for a week, we did the boat trip down the coast to the Plantation and volcano. However, if you want to do something really romantic and exotic, they had a package that they promoted on the island, which consisted of a flight to Union Island in the Grenadines on a 15 pass aircraft, aupon landing there you began a 3 island oddesy on a trimarin which takes you to some of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean, where you anchor and swim, sun, and snorkel for about 1 1/2 hrs on each, on the last island they provide a buffet, they fly you back to St. Lucia. The crew on the boat was wonderful, it was an experience we will never forget, especially since we did it on Valentines Day.

Dave,

Was this a trip that only Sandals offers or is it somethng that many of hotels offer? I'm leaving for my honeymoon on Monday and am staying at Anse Chastanet and that sounds like a neat trip.

1. Watch Animals being slautered.

2. Drink Polluted Water.

3. Join a political riot.

4. Catch giant bugs eating your food.

5. Fix overflowing toilets.

6. Go see miles and miles of banana farms.

7. Sun youself on volcanic (black sand) beaches.

8. Risk your life in a taxi.

9. Try to leave from a totally unorganized airport after you're given incorrect information about your flight.

10. (Sorry, too terrible to mention - but the antibiotics did help after my doctor finally figured out what type of "worm" i was suffering from)

As you can see i'm not a St.Lucia fan and there are many others. Go someplace without the hassles.

Everyone has a different take on things, but I returned recently from St. Lucia and had the most wonderful trip. The water at our resort was perfectly drinkable and you can get bottled water anywhere. We saw no animals being slaughtered and no riots. What we did see was an island with incredible beauty, even the black sand beaches are stunning. We stayed at the south end of the island and the scenery is breathtaking. Looking out over the Pitons (mountains) with beautiful lush greenery and flowers everywhere was absolute heaven for us. Everyone we met was incredibly nice and we cannot wait to go back. We stayed at Ladera Resort and the whole experience was top-notch!

Hi:

I just got back from my honeymoon in St. Lucia and I can only speak for my experience which was fantastic! Everyone was super nice we met on the island including taxi drivers. We rented a jeep and drove everywhere. Do the cruise on the Brig Unicorn a tall masted ship for the day cruise or the sunset cruise. Go see the botanical gardens and waterfall in sourfrie. Go to Morn CAbrail Estate for a tours. Go to the beach at Jaluise HIlton. Skp Anse Chastanet not worth the trip for the beach. Eat from a coconut. We drank the water everywhere with no ill affests. Saw no riots and animals being hurt. We drove everywhere too and got lost and still saw nothig strange. Go to PIgon island and go up to the fort as the views are fantastic. I took six rolls of film the island was so beautiful.

For more specific details see my trip report.

Denise, I would love to know where you stayed and had such an awful time!

I absolutely loved St.Lucia, I thought the people were very friendly. I rented a car most of the time, but did take several taxis and never had a problem. I actually enjoyed seeing the banana plantations, which happens to be one of the islands major crop.

I flew in and out of both airports in St.Lucia and never felt anything was unorganized; if you were given wrong flight information, it sounds like that is an airline problem--not the islands.

I am sorry you had such a horrible time, I can't imagine any of the things you are saying you experienced since I have been there twice on both sides of the island and had nothing but a great experience.

I think St.Lucia is a great place.
