The Sands In April

My husband and I are planning a trip to The Sands toward the end of April. It sounds like a great place as far as the beach, location, beach drink service, price. Our concern though is that it's just the 2 of us and we want to be able to go and relax without a ton of kids. I've read a lot of reviews on Fodors. Some saying the Sands is like a "mini-beaches" or the most family-friendly. When we've looked at resorts that are comparable in price (rwi, ocw, cg), we like the Sands best...however, we're wondering if, in order to get the peace and quiet we're looking for, we need to try the next tier up (maybe turks and caicos club?). Do we need to do this or can we feel confident that we can still have a peaceful vacation at the Sands?

Lots of kids at the Sands. Not too great housekeeping. Read Tripadvisor reviews. If I were you, I'd stay at RWI for a similar pricepoint and better service. I stayed at the Sands two years ago and had several issues. I wrote a follow-up letter to management, which was non-existent during our trip, and they replied that they would mail us a certificate for 2 free nights. That was a year ago and I've not received it (though not a big concern as I would not stay there again), despite several email follow-ups.

We stayed at the Sands 2 years ago. We were there the first week of May. We did take our children but by no means was the place overrun with them. There were a few other children there but it seemed to be mostly couples. End of April should be pretty quiet as it is after Easter and school has not let out yet. We enjoyed our stay. Had a beautiful oceanfront 2 bedroom. No complaints from us. We would definitely stay there the next time we go back.

We stayed next door from the Sands at the Sibonne in May '06. We cut through the Sands many times to get to the road that leads to Salt Mills and Ports of Call. Sounds like you read my review, because we thought the Sands looked like a "mini-Beaches" hotel. There were children everywhere every time we went through the property. The Sibonne was great for us, small, quite and no children the week we were there. We also looked at staying at the Alexandra as it was priced basically the same at the Sibonne.

I'm thinking that end of April will be quieter since it's right after school vacation also and it's unlikely that many familiies would take trips right before the school year ends (between spring break and summer). As far as accomodations, is the Sands as nice as RWI? We like the location of the sands and it sounds like the restaurant is great for lunch and for drinks...so we'd like to stay there unless we hear strongly otherwise.

We stayed at The Sands two years ago and are going back this summer. We had no problems with service while were there and I've sent several emails about this next trip. I received replies very quickly and they were most helpful with my questions. I considered RWI this time, but I like that The Sands balconies are covered and had also heard there's construction fairly close to RWI. On our last trip we did see a few kids, but the way their pool winds around, there was always a quiet spot for the two of us. The beach is also very peaceful.

We stayed at The Sands last June and had a great time. It was just me and my husband and in no way did we feel like it was overrun with kids. The beach is terrific over there and very calm.

We are trying Ocean Club West this May just to give us some varity, but believe me, it was hard to not want to stay at The Sands again because we enjoyed it so much.

Have fun... You will love TCI!!

We stayed at the Sand with our daughter. We picked the Sands primarily due to the toddler pool. The outdoor restaurant is really nice also and worked out well with our toddler. We did see some kids by the pool area but when we visited in May it was not over run by kids. However we were not happy with housekeeping, very slow and did not show up till 3pm (and that too after we would call the front desk). There are so many other choices. If I were going back to Turks w/o our daughter we would not stay at the Sands.

And I'm pretty sure there was no beach drink service at the Sands but the walk from the beach to the restaurant to get a drink is not far (as your post indicates).

There was beach service when we went and I'm pretty sure it's still the same. The ladies would come around several times to ask if we needed anything.
