T&C or Cancun?

We have narrowed down our honeymoon destination (May 2005) to Parrot Cay in Turks & Caicos and Maroma in Cancun. We need your help for the final selection! We are interested in rest and relaxation, laying by the pool and on a beautiful beach, all kinds of water activities, hikes, sunset cruises, shopping, some night life and great food. (Is there more to do in T&C than relax? Haven't heard much about shopping or any kind of night life there.) Would love to hear your recommendations about the two places. Thanks!

I have been to both of those places and would suggest Maroma for you. (Might also look into InterContintal Paraiso Bonita or Royal Hideaway.)

There is SOOO much more to do in the Riviera Maya area - we found ourselves a little bored after two weeks on Provo. (And we are divers.)

I think Parrot Cay would be even quieter than Provo. There was local nightlife on Provo, and a (kinda cheesy) casino at Allegro we checked out. VERY little shopping.

There are lots of good dining choices in both places you've mentioned, but I would go with Maroma. Close to great shopping, nightlife, dining and hiking/exploring.

I would agree with Diana's comments. I have been to both resorts - and loved them both, but Parrot Cay is basically on an island by itself and you would have to take a 20-30 min. water taxi anywhere for any kind of nightlife. Maroma is closer to Playa Del Carmen than Cancun, but I would say you would have more options with Maroma.

There is not much more to do in T&C than relax and water sports.

If you're looking for shopping and nightlife, then Cancun, or Playa Del Carmen is probably a better bet.

A good general source of information on the PDC and Cancun area is www.playadelcarmeninfo.com

Having been to Provo in T & C and Royal Hideaway in Playa del Carmen, and reading about what you want, I would recommend you consider Royal Hideaway. Can't imagine a more romantic place to spend a honeymoon. My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary there and it was definitely a 2nd honeymoom!

I have been to T&C and while it is a gorgeous beach, I have to agree with Dianna. We were there in Jan. Met others who were from Chicago. After one week we agreed we had enough and were ready to go "home." It is just a bit to quiet there for us. The best shopping I saw was at the airport when we were leaving. Although I have not been to RH in Mexico it gets wonderful reviews. I would choose this over T&C.
